i received my garret 250 yesterday and couldnt sleep last nite.Today i went to a local park for the first time and pop top galore but i was glad the machine was working.2 hours went by with about 3 dollards of change and i was getting nready to pack it in when a father asked if his young son could try my detector me being new to the hobby didnt want any trouble and said ok.his first signal he goes to dig it and he was standing on the cord to my head phones and was so excited and ripped the cord from my detector and the head phone wire was hanging from the metal detector, everyone was laughing except for me and the father said these things happen.Im a grown man but when i got home i started crying because i was so mad.Never again i wil let this happen, and i dont have the money for new head phones.I hate people sometimes! and the 3 dollars of change isnt going to buy them! I hope i see these people again in the future when i have nothing at stakes if you know what i mean! I guess in this hobby your going to have to have a mean side and just say no and leave me alone!:starwars:

does everyone have problems like this or do i just attract people because i always have a smile on my face even when things arent going to good just keep people comfortable, but im doing it wrong ,a frown goes along way, because people wouldnt approach a unhappy camper like i am right now! now i have to worry about my machine bothering people with all the beeps they are now going to hear! Im just thinking of the day when some punks are going to bother me and im going to have to throw down!:stretcher:

Watch for them in the park when he gets his son a detector, walk up and say how nice it is and ask if you can use it to find your ring that you just lost and when you get it take the phones and say that they will fit yours, take them and leave.

i never thought i would haveto be in a postion to become a jerk,t,but again that never happend to me,beleive me ,they will get theirs,i already knocked on doors and finaly got my answer and the fathers name, and im getting money from him beleive me,this isnt over!:clapping::please: they need a wake up call, both father and son! my friend has a son the boys age,i might have to hire the boy to take care of the kid,MY BODY GUARD STYLE! GOOD MOVIE:surrender:

Nick, if you pay the postage I will send you a brand new pair of Teknetics headphones. I know what its like to be strapped for cash. Used only twice. I'm in Idaho. They have volume control for each earpiece. I think they should work on the Ace 250. Not all people are jerks, but there does seem to be a overabundance of them these days. Just PM me your address if your interested.

I forgot to add, you need to make a few more posts before you can private message another user. I think it 10 messages. Maybe another user here knows the exact number required.

wow, thank you:surprised:you made my day by just offering them to me:yo:i just went to a dradio shack and got my self a cheap pair of walk man style head phones, cut the cord in half and made them twice as long, works like a charm, found my first weat back in neighbors yard while doing a favor for her by making her a garden.I dont write to good, but i know what im saying, hope you do to!:beers:

Congrats on the Wheatie. Let us know when you get the first silver. Actually I use a set a cheapo Radio Shack headphones on my Omega. I like the sound they produce. Keep the Faith:)

TerraDigger, you da man! That was a very generous gesture.

You meet the nicest people on this forum!

Nick, I have done the same thing with letting a kid try out my detector and trying to answer their gazillion questions about detecting. Nothing bad happened and left the kids with smiles on their faces. Now I just tell them "no, but I'll show you how it works" and throw a coin on the ground....sometimes I let them keep the coin after letting them watch me "detect" it. The father should have stepped up and offered to replace the damaged equipment since HE is the one that asked if his kid could try out your detector IMHO. I'm glad you're back in business.

I tell ya...I have an old set of Rat Shack Nova headphones, and the souns from them beats some of the top dollar phones...It is one thing Radio Shack got right....

HH,

I am a nice guy as well, but one day I went to a park in the afternoon and a kid asked me if he could use it, I firmly replied, "No". Not being rude or anything but why take a chance having someone damage something that you have bought with your hard earned money. I will give you some advice that has worked for me. I go and detect very early in the morning, at about 7AM, that way the park is all for me:bouncy:
I only detect on the weekends, because hopefully the kids dropped enough money during the week.

That is great Terradigger to offer that! What a great guy! Thumbs up! As for letting people use my machine that I don't know , I won't do it, sometimes if you don't make eye contact and keep your head down and MD most people won't bother you, sorry you had problems like you had , but Terradigger just solved the problem for you! Happy hunting, Hank

a neighbors kid? Heck i wont even let MY OWN kids use my sea hunter

my wife and them have come to name it Goldie, though it hasnt found any yet. So of course i took them to task for jinxing the possibilities hahaha

I would not have left without me cash in my hand...NEVER let stranger kids touch your machine...I would have been getting some cash off dad for that one...

HH,

i feel like ever since ive had my at pro, someone is gonna bust me over the head and take the machine. i dont like wearing headphones(i do use them) just because i wouldnt be able to hear someone walking up on me. but literally almost every person who sees the machine has to make some comment about it(all good)

Easiest way to keep folks away for me is to carry a GMFRS radio turned all the way up and scanning all channels...I think it makes them think I am a city worker or something....I have also heard of folks wearing the orange vests...
Makes ya look like your working...lol...Well, You were Working...Right???

HH,

I agree with the dad saying these things happen as kids are the best quality control testers on the planet and do break most things but that is no excuse to not own up and pay for the damage done. Does the father not recognize the message he is showing his son? He should have taken responsability and openned the wallet to your cost of loss to show a valuable lesson to his son which would far out weigh the monitary value of the phones.

I prefer it when little puppies come rushing towards me. At least until they don't start chewing at my earphone wires...
Two Sundays ago, I heard thumping and looked up and a young wild boar was rushing towards me... He got scared by a hiking family and didn't see me in his path. I let out a little "hey!" and the beast curved to the right and ran off into the woods. I was already set to climb up a tree...
If kids come along, just tell them you're searching for dangerous underground gas lines.

I usually dress up like a street person ( detecting ware )
and that keeps curious people at bay.
Keep that miserable look on my face helps.

The dad should have offered to pay for the damage. The kid was just being a kid. When I was a little boy an older boy came to see my brothers to show off his brand new motorcycle and I asked if he put water in it and he said yes. I took my little army surplus canteen and poured it into his gas tank. After he and my older brother beat me up, I learned not to put water into a gas tank. Kids do the darnest things, but adults should know better. I talk to myself a lot and most people don't ask me any questions, I don't know why. lol
