First Day Out With E-Track

Rigit

New member
OK chaps, I spent 6 hours swinging my E-Track today along with my Son who was using his Whites Spectrum Eagle.

The site was a new farm for us and the targets where few.

Conditions.

5" Stubble, ground was dry, rock hard and cracked.

Ran Sensitivity on auto -1 (Ion infested) auto +2 (Iron Free)

Pattern UK Roman as downloaded from Minelab Site

Started with tone ID Ferrous changed after lunch to Conduct

Machine was very stable and gave false signals over larger lumps of iron or when I forgot to drag my spade behind my back.

Got a very clear positive tone ID 10- 45 appeared to be a large target when pinpointing and depth was indicated as shallow, came out with the first spade full of dirt ( a 30mm small round patterned silver container the top is hinged and made of from stone mounted into a silver rim) not sure what its for yet) as the day continued I pulled up several pre decimal coins all where shallow but I would expect that when on 5" stubble and dry conditions.

It was pleasing to find a small 10mm button at about 4.5" it gave a clear signal and Id was 17 - 20 I found several other small items at a similar level, this shows that the machine detects smaller objects OK.

Nothing else was found after this as the rain set in.

So what do I think so far?

A good machine? Yes with out a doubt very smooth and consistent the weight balance is as good as my XLT and after six hours I could have gone on for another six.

Bad Points ? Yes just one, I struggled to see the screen due to the glare from the light sky, now this was made worst by me using a protective cover and impossible when the rain started, I still found it difficult when the cover was removed.

So did my son do any better with his whites machine that he knows inside out? No he only found the same amount as me less the silver container.

I can't wait to get out on one of our good sites, just waiting for the crop to come out, as most detectorist know the above conditions are difficult when hunting for hammered or small Roman silver coins and I won,t really know how good the machine is until we get out onto a ploughed and rolled field later in the year.

and having the coil that high above the ground causes much more iron falsing.. it is good to see a few non 12 ferrous readings :)

I am surprised you had no problems with the weight.. another good thing, since trying to hold the coil over the top of stubble can get to you quick.. especially without a solid coil to glide on top of it

I tried adjusting the contrast but it did not help, It seemed better today without the protective cover on but not as clear as the old XLT. The weight was not an issue at all it appears that they got it spot on when they redesigned the pitch of the hand grip, just a slight twinge in the wrist this morning.
