I can pretty much use the ace 250 in the dark, but
like you say, it's the digging and finding the article
in the dark, that requires some light. I find it kind
of a hassle, and usually quit when it gets really dark.
But if I had a lantern, or something...No problem.
I've kicked around adding some kind of lighting to the
ace 250, but I'm kinda paranoid to mess with it while it's
under warranty. I don't know how they would take to that,
even if I totally avoided the electronics and batteries
of the unit. I've considered rigging up a clip on light
that could clip to the top "hood" of the head, but not
sure how that would pan out. I'm sure I would use white
LED's no matter if outboard, or internal like I'd prefer.
I'd use a separate battery for any light as I don't want
any extra drain on the detector if I did that.
After a cold cruddy weekend, I got to play in the dirt a
bit this afternoon. No big haul, but got 27 more coins.
I'm now up to 356 coins just out of my yard alone, and
steady keep plodding along when I get time to detect.
There are plenty more I'm sure, and I think I'll bust
500 before too long.

I'm using my yard as kind of my "training ground" for
the machine. I don't care that most are pennys...Just
as long as I'm finding coins. I'm starting to learn some
of the quirks, and get better at reading it as I go
along. I'm kind of amazed I'm not even close to cleaning
out my yard yet. Lots of lost coins, but it also is a good
test for the machine that it can sniff em out.

To Dan, you'll like that machine. I look at the higher end
models and kinda drool. The 2500 is really slick with all
that size ID, imaging, etc..
