Found my first V nickel in a field that used to have baseball field in at the turn of the century. Found about 5 inches down with my E-trac with the stock 11 coil.

Still cleaning it up. it looks better than the scan

Very nice find there, looks like a keeper. Its a shame the ground isn't very kind to nickles

my buddy has found lots of silver over a 100 but has only found one V nickel. We are both usiing the E-trac.I have both a F75ltd2 and E-trac. I had the V3i last year but my buddys E-trac showed me that my V3i was not keeping up. I liked the V3i, however I could never could get the depth I want. The quality of the finds are much greater now with the E-trac and the F75LTD2. jUST MY tHOUGHTS. Not bashing the V3i but it is just not good for me. If you ever get a chance to hunt with a E-trac you will be amazed. My buddy pulled 3 slivers out of the field that I found the V nickel. One was a Barber quarter. We find Wheats like you find zincs. truly amazing. He has found 4 Large cents just in the last two weeks.

Congrats! It took me 3 years to find my first. If you are finding it difficult to clean, let it sit in lemon juice for a few days checking it frequently. Also, very fine steel woll will polish it up without damaging it.

Cleaned up V-nickel. Ended up using scouring pad. Not worth anything to anybody else but me. It has that rust I could not get off. At least you can now read it. It is in the coin holder so it might be better out of it but decided to leave it in. I love this coin. Never found one in all my years. I love the design and it reminds me of a barber.

I thought the v nickel was designed by Barber.

I believe you are right. Still waiting to find my first Barber dime and quarter.

Congrats on the V Nickel! Its always a thrill to see something like that come up out of the ground.

Congrats on your 1st V. I soak my old nickles in olive oil for a few months. I take them out and rub um occasionally. It doesn't clean them completly but brings out some detail

Good job! My first, (and only) V was about 1" down. This was after 4 days of very strong winds out in the desert. I truly believe the winds uncovered it for me!
