First ever

Found my first Barber dime this afternoon. All if Liberty can be seen on his head.
It was approximately 6 1/2" deep on the side of a bank in a small area that was found by accident this past summer. It has given up many Indians, Wheat pennies, V and buffalo nickels and now my first barber. This particular site has been a mystery from the start. It just goes to show people tend to loose things in some of the most unusual places. Any ideas on the button?

That whole mystery thing would drive me crazy!!! Nothing shows up on any old plats? Have you considered trying to find a "resource" in a local nursing home?

Congradulations on your first Barber, I remember when I found my first (actually was two back to back), it is really a great feeling. That looks in nice shape indeed. Cant help you with the button. Is that like a bike reflector in the lower left corner?, I found one like that. Or is it a piece of jewelry? What machine where you using.? Good Huntin.

Congratulations on your beautiful Barber dime. I remember the first Barber dime I found, I had to go to Wal-Mart and look in a coin magazine before I knew it was real. I had never seen one before. None that I have found since, are in as good as shape as that first one. Your should put it in a coin capsule, then on an easel and place it on your trophy shelf. Very nice find.

A real treat for sure. The button looks like a coat or cuff button of some sort. Im reminded of a school uniform...

The things we see with our eyes today are assuredly not what was there 100 years ago. What you must know is what the intervening century has wiped away, so you can see a site with "old" eyes.

Old snow banks are great for finding coins. Old ice rinks are great also.

Wonderful first, Mark. That is one find you will un-doubtedly remember forever. Like others, I, too, can still remember my first Barber recovery. Like yours, it was also a dime..a 1904s with a mintage of 800,000. It recently was graded ef-40 and is and has been in my grandsons collection now for many years. Most likely there is another in that spot, now go find it. HH jim tn
