OK GUYS WAS ABLE TO GET A COUPLE HOURS ON MY ETP YESTERDAY AND TODAY.I HUNTED A OLD HOMESITE THAT I HAD ALREADY HUNTED MANY MANY TIMES.ALTHOUGH I DIDNT FIND A SINGLE COIN I DID FIND A OLD TOKEN FOR ONE OF THE DRUS STORES THAT USE TO BE IN OUR SMALL TOWN.TODAY I FOUND A LOST SILVER PENDANT THAT SAID HAPPY BIRTHDAY WITH A CAKE WITH ONE CANDLE.LOOKS TO BE OLD.I DO LIKE THE DEPTH OF THE MACHINE.MUCH DEEPER THAN MY ACE 250 WAS.I'M TRYING TO GET THE HANG OF THE VDI NUMBERS,TRYING TO FIGURE WHICH NUMBERS TO DIG,WHAT TO DO WITH BOUNCEY NUMBERS,SWING SLOW ,SWING FAST ECT.ANY POINTERS ON THIS WOULD BE GREAT.NOT EVER OWNING A MACHINE WITH VDI NUMBERS MAKES IT MORE OF A LEARNING CURVE FOR ME.GOING TO A NEW PLACE NEXT TIME OUT WHERE THERE WAS A HARDWARE STORE THERE OVER 60 YEARS AGO.I DO LOVE THE MACHINE AND THINK I WILL HAVE MANY GREAT FINDS WITH IT.WILL TRY TO GET SOME PICS. UP IN THE NEXT DAY OR TWO.DONT FORGET YOUR ADVICE IS WELCOME.HH ANTHONY

Get a bunch of coins and air test to get an idea of what target # they read.. Then bury them 1 2 3 & 4 inches deep and check Id numbers...

Good going , I know you'll get a lot of goodies with it !!!

Metalfun,

Yes there can be a bit of a learning curve with the VDI numbers. However I would caution not to be to rigid with the numbers. It is rare that a dime for example will always read the exact same every time. Personally I pay a lot more attention to tone and repeaters than the VDI using it only to verify what I believe I already know. The silver dime I dug a couple days ago is a great example. If I would have only listened to VDI I would have passed the Lincoln memorial numbers and left it in the ground (it was on edge). I have also dug other coins that had the VDI all over the place, but the high tone was repeatable and target small. Upon digging I found other non ferrous in the hole beside the coin. Iron high tones will not repeat themselves more than 50 or 60 percent of the time. I have been fooled but my rule of thumb for repeatable high tone is dig er up! I would be willing to bet that the silver you found the other day would have stayed if you lock on too much to just the VDI number.

Don't misunderstand, I make use of the VDI but its just one piece of information and to me the final piece, not the most important.
