First finds, including gold for 2007!!!

Hello all, had a great day at the beach on Saturday. We drove around on the peninsula, and one of the beaches was packed with people, on the sand, lawns and the pier. Aparently there was a get together for the Greek community, with singing and dancing, lots of great food by the look of it too! So, decided to get into the water first with the Excalibur, about 50mts off shore. The water was fairly shallow at about 4ft deep. The amount of people swimming around was increditble. My very first target uncovered was the 14ct yellow gold ring! I couldn't believe it! I started laughing underwater and nearly drowned myself! Within a few hours, I'd picked up an 18ct white gold ring with 16 diamonds set all around the band. Six of the diamonds made up the shape of a cross. Picked up a chunky men's silver ring, and another silver ring that looked like it had been in the water for some time. After that I got out and we decided to go have a coffee, and wait for the crowd to subside. I wanted to give the beach a go, where all the people had been sitting and mucking about. Around 4:00pm, things died down, so I took out the Quattro, while hubby went back into the water with the Excal, and son deiced to try out the Explorer 2. Within an hour, I picked up just under $39.00 in coins. Most had been dropped on the day, and only buried a few inches down. It was a coin mine! Had a few guys interested in what I was doing, and I suspected a couple of them might also detect. They were a bit vague with me. If they did, reckon they were spewing (excuse the term)! So here are my very first finds for 2007, and I won't be spending any of the coins this time! I plan to do a tally at the end of the year. I've already paid off the Quattro probably twice over with all the stuff I've found, now I have buy my own Excal, and stop borrowing hubby's!!!
Cheers Golden:detecting::)

What a great hunt golden! Congrats on 2 gold rings!:clapping: The bottom one may have been lost the same day as the event you witnessed was a blessing of the fleet (I think) by the Greek Orthodox church. It is an annual event held at several locations around Australia (all around water). The top ring looks beautiful.
Finding $39 in one hour at a beach. Wish I could do that. Haven't had much luck at the beaches ....yet. Hopefully my next trip to Sydney might resolve that one.
Great post.

Wow Angela I'm always amazed at the amount of finds you get in one outing. The rings look great also. I need to take a road trip to the coast and do some beach hunting.

That's why they call you Golden!:clapping::detecting::crylol::crazy::rofl:RIGHT ON THERE BABY!!!!! Boy you sure had your day on that one, and it's great to hear that from all your hard work and dedication you've been able to more than pay for the Quatro. I think you've "earned" that new Excalibur your gonna get, and since you've already had some experience with it, your that much ahead of the game. How were the people's responses when you were out there in the water with the EXCAL? "Gee, are you finding anything good with THAT THING?:clapping::crazy: I can just see you whipping out the gold ring you just found and saying, "Yea,,,,, it's a slow day, but I did manage to find these two or three gold rings and 30 some bucks worth of change." (I know you hadn't found the change yet, but I'm just giving a scenereo where you could really "get back" at some of them for almost making fun of the detector". I still love the one on the Ausie forum where that guy was asked that by a beach patron, and he said something like: "Yea, I'm looking for land mines, but havn't found anything yet", or "no, I'm not looking for land mines, I work for the government, and we're looking for a burried Atomic Bomb." I laughed on that one so hard I almost choked, but you know I still love people, and they can be a lot of fun when they ask about THAT THING. (the detector) At any rate, you really had a great day and congratulations.

Hey, by the way, Angela, old buddy old pal:devil:,,,,you couldn't loan me a few hundred so I can put a down payment on a new Excallibur??????:twodetecting::hot::crazy: JUST RIBBING YOU DEAR., Keep up with all the great finds.:|

Hi Mick, I reckon so too, that the rings may have been lost that day. I guess I just happened to be at the right place, the right time. Both gold rings were the first I found in a very long time. Usually I'm just finding silver rings. Hubby has been getting all the gold! So it was a refreshing change, for once, to have the tables turned! I probably won't find another for a long time! Hope you do great at Sydney! The beaches should be nicely crowded for the summer, so lots of targets!
Hi Butch, I've grown to really love beach detecting. Didn't do much of it when I was on the goldfields, I was too engrossed in finding relics. But it's nice to experience both.
Hi Beachguy! Mostly I stayed away from the people, I tended to find a spot on my own and concentrate detecting there. Garry all morning had been saying to me, "I gotta find gold", and had been using the Excal for a bit before me, then handed it over to me, as usually he's quite happy just to watch, hold the pouch, and pop in the targets for me. But when the very first signal I got was the gold ring, well, that's why I laughed under water and choked! :rofl:I honestly didn't expect it! Strange thing is, I hardly got any coins at all, it must have been "ring" time! Yes, the Aussie forum has some really funny posts. :) :twodetecting::minelab::pulltab::wiggle:I just love these icons!!!!

Yea, I know I "beat up", on the tourists "questions", pretty badly, but they just blow my mind sometimes with the questions they ask, so I'm trying to come up with equally clever and outrageous answers for them. I all honesty, I'm usually pretty polite with them and try to be straight foreword, but when you get a real jerk on the line, you just want to give him a hard time and say something like: "No, I haven't found any gold lately, I'm actually working for the FBI looking for live land mines in your area". You know, I'd have to tell em the truth if I really said that, but I'd love to see their reaction, after they ask, "Do you really ever find anything "really good" with "that thing". I guess I've just got "sour grapes", because I've only found a couple of "really good" things with the Quatro, but I "know", it can find em IF......, they're under the coil and I "dig em". Do I hear an AMEN. :twodetecting::crazy::|
