First Gold Find of the Year

Hi Guys,

Here's my first bit of gold for this year. I'd like to say that I found it due to my superior detecting skills. However, this wasn't the case. It just happened to be in the same hole as a 1940 wheatie. What surprised me was that I waved the chain in front of my coil with discrimination wide open and got absolutely no response. If it weren't for the wheatie, I would have never found it. I think the Explorer is one of the best detectors ever made but it seems to have a blind spot to gold chains.

Open the Explorer all the way up in All-Metal and see if it can pick up the Gold Chain. Most likely it won't but it might due to the amount of mass. Reason if it doesn't is due to all the small chain links leaving metallic voids and making it very hard to detect. I know even large Gold Earrings the Explorer will not see even using All-Metal and using the Sunray X-1 Probe in Pinpoint. Just thought I would point this out.

Congrats on the great find....Gold is always fun to find and sure is a tough item to find when out detecting on land. Continued Success, Good Luck and HH to you.
