First Gold Nugget with new White's PI

Dave Johnson produced a discriminating pulse prior or during the development of the Fisher Impulse. I remember his post on the subject as saying they didn't want to put a static detector on the market at that time so went ahead with the non discriminating Impulse. Could be the type of decision that led to the eventually take over of the company.

Hi Brian,

You know, I've read that same tidbit, and it puzzled me. There must have been more to the story than we know. You have to wonder if maybe the new Fisher would bring the idea back. Or if nothing got patented, whether somebody else could pursue the project. I'll have to try andfind out more.

I still wonder if the CronePulse PI discriminator (must be all of twenty years back) really worked. The prototype was supposed to be up and running and it was just going to be a case of reducing the componant count to make it easier and cheaper to build.
Still waiting on that one !

Steve, I am writing this an informational post on the Infinium that may be a benefit to some of its users. I have read all your articles on The Infinium and used them as resource before I purchased the Infinium. I am by no means an expert or a person of your caliber but I found a way to make the Infinium stable. I have used the Infinium and this technique in Alaska (Central, AK placer mining, got to love the Steese Roadhouse) Maine, Florida Treasure Coast and Gulf Coast and in the San Diego, La Jolla, California beaches. I travel for work and bring my Infinium, so I can say this works in different ground conditions. I found this while working a heavy black sand beach in Maine and messing around trying to get rid of interference issues. You may have sold all your Infiniums at Moore

Hi Black Davy,

I get around and have read your posts and actually have passed your tip on to others. You obviously are quite expert with the Infinium. Very good info indeed. Thanks!

One thing funny is that I got to test a prototype Infinium and I told them their coil cables were very poor compared to the other brands. They said it was fine. Now they finally have figured that gee, those cable were not good enough. I suspect the cable was a major part of the problem for sure and so the new coils are no doubt a big improvement. They also are much tougher.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking the Infinium. I suspect it will retain a significant price advantage over the new White's unit. Unless White's makes a waterproof version the Infinium will still be the only underwater GBPI (ground balancing pulse induction) unit out there.

Steve,

Thanks for the kind words.

By no means does anyone think you are knocking the unit, you are simply stating the facts. The facts I knew when I purchased the unit. It would have been nice if they listened to you about those cables, then there would not have been so many users that bought the unit and sold it within months.

Garrett needs to try to due a recall and make sure that all the old coils that are on dealers shelves are swapped out with the new version. This would be in their best interest for the Infinium. The bad press due to some of these issues has not helped them any. There are still new users on the p2p forum that just purchased the unit just to have issues and need to send the unit back to have the coil swapped out. I am also by no means knocking Garrett or its product as I love the Infinium and back it on any forum for its price point and versatility it is a good unit.

I use to hip mount my control housing as you did in one of you photos on the back side. I ended up trashing two coils from the constant movement of the wire at the control box. I contacted Garrett, they told me the recommended mounting was on the waist and that if I sent the unit back they would swap out my coils and that they had made improvements to them. The epoxy coating on the bottom of the coil is also much better. I guess they made some improvements to the coil connections.

Someday I would like to visit your shop, but typically I am in the Fairbanks area heading up to Central.

Thanks for your time.

Oh damn, i cant wait any longer and i dont belive it will be released this month or next. I mean, just one hunter got his hands on the PROTOTYPE!...and it was still a PROTOTYPE and not the real unit at all.

I want this unit noow.. and yes.. iam relly bad in waiting.

Please Steve... tell me that this detector will be released this month or better tomorrow. ;-)

Hi sebastian,

You think you are going nuts, I've known this unit was in the works for two years now. I was hoping for it last spring, but then White's decided to do a total redesign on the case, etc. based on inout from testers. They refuse to hurry the process, and I'm thankful for that. The fact is delays can happen for numerous reasons, and that is why White's absolutely refuses to put out a release date in advance. They do not want to be held to a schedule. The official answer I heard when they get asked at White's is "when it is ready".

For personal reasons I'm hopeful of having the new unit by the end of May. I pretty much bet on it by selling the four Infiniums I had at our mine to replace them with the new White's unit. I head up to the mine at the end of May, and so need four new units before then. Frankly, if White's does not come through by then I'm not sure what I will do. So I'm just crossing my fingers and I'll keep on hoping.

I hope you don't have a  of a time getting those new White's PI's. ;)

Hi Steve

Actually i want this unit for deep coin and relic hunting here in germany. Hopefully i can make a trip to alaska or australia next year because goldhunting is a big dream to me. :)
