First Hunt for 2011 = Heartstopper and Heartbreaker

Saturday was my first time out this year after dealing with the snow, the crud, the snow again, and the rain.

My detecting buddy and I went to a local park where we have never ever turned up one old coin, but being that it was a windy day, this park offerd a wooded tree line to break the cold wind.

I dug my share of clad and a few pieces of trash and had a target that rang up as a nickle (12-13). I flipped the plug and seen my first gold ring staring at me or so I thought.

Boy they sure look pretty in the fresh dug dirt, but when I got it out it felt really light in the hand leading me to believe it was a piece of crap. I hit it with the file when I got home and it ended up being Gold Anodized Aluminum marked India on the inside. I ran it over my coil after it ws out of the ground and it rang a solid 12-48

Ended up with just under a $1.50 in change and a few pieces of crap, but it sure made for a fun day.

This was the first time I had ran an Etrac since July of last year and it sure felt good to hunt with a detector that I fully enjoy.

Thanks for looking

Aah, man I've had two of those junker rings jump outta the ground at me... I know the feeling... excitement and then... well, anyway. Good that you got out and had fun! We'll get the real deal one'o'these days!

I has the same let down a few weeks ago. Still a rush though. As long as you had a good time, it's all good :detecting:

Pictures don't lie DJH. I can feel the let down here as well. What's strange is how much the tone would've been gold in the ground and silver out. I've only dug one gold ring and that one came in at 10-10 all directions. It was a man's solid band and was very thin.

Thanks for the pictures and sorry for the let down. Some people just don't know how to loose quality jewelry.

To add to this, I was using TTF and it did have a high tone running in this mode.

Would a gold ring give a High Tone running in TTF? or a Low Tone in TTF?

I do know that the VDI on the conductive side was 13 for certain before I dug it out of the ground.

I know how you feel DJH, yesterday when I seen gold in the hole I was pretty sure it was real. Just a shiny as I pictured it being, until i got it out and seen half the gold was gone and flaked away. But it was fun for a few minutes....ha ha ha. I'll just have to wait until later to fine one, and it was good being outdoors.

I believe all signals but iron will give a high tone in TTF.

Slay's right. Everything above like 17 (so 1-17 Fe) will give a high tone and the low tone would be everything below (18-35)... I believe. I just know you'll hear a high tone on anything with a Fe. of 12 in TTF. If you happened to glance at the numbers and saw it was 12-13 and out of the ground it was 12-48 [ in Multi-Tone Conduct sounds that would've been very different] that's the weird part.

You run into odd things like that from time to time. I just wish (I'm sure you too) it would've been gold.
