first hunt of new year

Didnt get much at all . it was cold and my son was grumpy so it made for a hard time out. I did get a pocket spill. and my hubby got an old watzit.

my pocket spill was a total of 63 cents in clad. no biggie but what made it cool was there was 33 pennies a quarter and a nickel. all in the same hole. wish i had a pic of it as it was neat looking. i pryed up the top of the ground with my screwdriver and there was a hole full of pennies. sure beats finding em 1 by 1.lol
now for my hubbys find. his is cool though not complete. he only found 1/2 of something. i did some research of a local park and found a ton of history on it so we went there. i guess back in the 1800's there was a ranch/ diary farm there. now its a huge community park. we went off to a field in the park to detect and he found this...it came up nickel. its about the size of a quarter maybe , not magnetic, and is a horse head. anybody have any idea on age or what it could be from?

Definitely looks old. Hard to tell what it is though. I would concentrate your hunting in that area. Congrats!

Congrats on getting out and :twodetecting: on the first day of the year, dobbie! I always like to find those pocket spills....used to be able to find the older coins and silver spills....but even clad is thrilling to find lots all at once! To me, your hubby's find looks like an old antique decorative piece off a dresser drawer or something like that! Can't really see the size but could be the top half off a walking sticks or canes, as they used to have different knobs on them....and some were decorative.....soooo who knows what it is for sure, but ya found some goodies today to start your Happy New Year of 2009 towards a big collection totals! :) God Bless! Betty

ok hubby came up with a good one . he reminded me of the old race track that was here in the 1800's. they raced horses amoungst other things. the track was located right down the street from where we found this item. could it possibly be an award metal of some sort from the races? and that 1/2 isnt missing, its just the horses head with some of the edges missing? he brought to my attention that it is a wierd shape and flat on the back. HMMMMM wouldnt that be cool?

snow.

Glad you got out and it is fun to find a lot of coins in one hole...think 5 is the most I had ever found. No clue about the horse head...maybe part of a handle for a kid's cap gun??/
