First hunt of the year!,,,,,,,,,

Went out Monday to a sledding hill. I figured the kids would all be in school. Well it was MLK Jr day so I guess some had the day off. Our's didn't.
Anyways due to a small handful of kids on the different hills that I had to work around and 19 degrees, I only dug 6 targets. There were many more, but they were down in the frozen ground. I was only looking for what was dropped since winter began. The take was small but I did get out! :detecting::thumbup:

Congrats on getting out and you didn't get skunked! May God Bless! AMen! Ma Betty

Holy smokes! I think I will get a horse and buggy!

Don't tell everyone! I always do but not with detector. They are filled with trash. Just eyeball the goodies!

I guess I will need to finish working on my truck modification . Truck running on wood. No gasoline required.

Is that your truck? Neat idea. Hope you like the forum.

God bless.

Mike

P.S. nice last name!

No not my truck. But I do have a truck and I also built a gasifier that will power the truck. I just have not put it on the bed of the truck yet. But like right now I have a generator running on a gasifier for when power goes out. An it works well. I have tested the system on the truck parked in front of it. So I know the units will run cars and trucks. I have tested running on charcoal, wood chips, and other stuff. Lot cheaper the gasoline for sure. Jim

Wouldn't mind having the instructions for building one of those gasifiers. Doubt I could fit it into the van but would be great if I could run the generator off the gasifier...and provide warmth in the garage in the winter as well when the power goes out in the winter and any other time the power goes out...which does happen up here too often and not always weather related.

Welcome Jim and sounds like a way of beating the gas prices....but with wood so expensive (unless a person had their own forest or access to one) that it would be a lot of trouble and expense! Of course, I know nothing about what you are talking about and may be easier than what it looks like! I know the travelers were using cooking oil to run their vehicles on a few years ago....converted to use used oil and stopped and the restaurants to fuel up! But didn't last long, so I wonder whatever happened to that idea?? Glad to have you with us and come back and be with us often! May God Bless! Amen! Ma Betty

I thought he was related to you Mike. Welcome Jim.

Here is a link to basic plans of a unit.

As for running used cooking oil in diesel engines. It works fin if you can get your hands on it. Around here their are several companies that but the used oil and turn it into bio diesel. So I can get my hands on used cooking oil in large enough quantity to convert my Benz over and be justifiable. But if I could I would. As for getting your hands on wood scraps, that is the easy part. Lots of places around here have to pay to get rid on old wood pallets. So I get as many as I want.
As for other fuels. Biogas "Methane"

Yes you can also make fuel to run a car with out much wood as well. Just about anything that will decompose will create methane gas. Once you have the gas and a way to compress it into a liquid for east transportation, you have another source of fuel.

Their is always more way then one to make an engine run. I have worked on conversions for many years. So with the higher price of gas, I don't even bother with it. You could also go solar, if you have a lot of money to tie up. Dump into battery and go that way. Or just spend more time metal detecting looking for gold rings, to buy fuel. As for me I love metal detecting and if I can get to the spots I want to go for just about nothing , I will......

I am unable to metal-detect any more and don't go much to use gasoline, so I guess I am a home-body and a loner and will be okay! I am glad that you can get to the detecting-places without much cost and May God Bless you to find lots of gold rings, silver and relics! Amen! Ma Betty
