First hunt with Deus

Well, got the Deus yesterday and went for my first hunt today, 2 wheats and no silver. I ran it in the Basic 1 program, the only thing I messed with was the discrimination. I dug almost all repeatable signals. Not real impressed with the headphones, in fact I think they are a piece of junk, very uncomfortable. I ended up running to town and finding a pair of earbuds with volume control, problem is when you use the jack on the control box you can't mount it on the shaft, the connector for the earbuds sticks straight down and interferes with my hand on the grip.

Not a problem, I will use the handy dandy belt mount, the Deus is now more or less a beep and dig detector, you have to stop, put down what is in your free hand and raise the control box up to see what the vdi numbers are (I carry my digger and pinpointer in one hand and swing with the other). So far my biggest complaint is the headphones.

You sure you have headphones on right? They just sit on top of your ears. I forget I have them on.

Yes, I think I am wearing them right, they are the neck band style, pretty much only one way to wear them. The left side with the controls is heavier than the right side, makes them feel uneven. They always feel like the are going to fall off.

Maybe it is because I wear glasses. I just know the Deus headphones are not as comfortable or snug as a full size set.

I know there is rumor about a new set of Deus headphones coming out sometime soon, they were supposed to have come out late last year. Bart, have you heard anything about that?

I wear glasses and they do not interfere with the headphones or how they fit. It's true that they feel completely different then the full size over the head type and you'll have to get used to them. When you removed them from the case, did you snap/lock the ends (the arms attached to the ear piece) into place? When I first put them on, I had the same sensation that you did and I noticed that I did not snap the ends in to place. Check and see if that may have been the case. Give them a try for a few more hunts, you may up end liking them. If they end up not being for you, there is an accessory case for the control unit that XP sells which allows you to attach the control unit to your arm. I sent a PM to Andy to see if he sells it, as I want one myself.

Yep, snapped them in place, just not crazy about that style of headphones. The arm band is something that I would definately be interested in, I see that you have placed a message in the forum, thanks for doing that.

First time to use the Deus, I was digging everything repeatable, they rang up in the high 90s for some reason, a little broken, but, I wanted to see what they were. I would rescan the hole and they were the only thing in there.

In my hunt today, I was digging iron (rusty nails) that was reading in the high nineties (around 9:geek:. I rechecked the holes with my Pro-Pointer and the Deus to make sure that nothing else was causing the signal. I was using the GMPOWER program. I bumped up the sens to 99 and used 4 tones. 1st tone 1 - 24, 2nd tone 25 - 57, 3rd tone 58 - 79, 4th tone 80 and up. I used Pumping as my ground balance, which I did every 15 - 30 minutes. When you have iron that is hitting that high, is there a way to tell it's iron? Anyone have any suggestions on settings, programs, etc.. that could help.

Just a rumor for now.

Have you tried switching to 4Khz freq to ID the iron?

No, yesterday was my first time out with my Deus and I was just trying to get used to her and play with some of the programs and expert settings. I spent about an hour in my test garden to get used to the sounds and numbers in each one of the stock programs and then hunted for a couple of hours. 4 Khz was the only frequency I did not try in my test garden or while I was hunting. I'm going to take some of the iron that I dug up and plant in the garden and give 4 Khz a try.

I am using Deus for a long time and i find wireless headphones very comfortable. I personally do not see any point to use Pinpointer with Deus, coil is very precise and behaves indeed as a concntric coil. I would not use 4 kHz, which is meant to use with big 34/28 cm coil
