FIRST Hunt with my new F5

:Well I took my new F5 out for its maiden run this morning , and me and her are going to get along just find. The F5 is my first manual GB machine. It was a breeze to ground balance, I set it in am mode,set the threshold at zero.Held the phase lock button down and pumped the coil up and down until GB and phase numbers matched, released phase button etc.And off I went,I put the gain at 80% and threshold at -3 .My first solid hit was a quarter right off the bat.It should up as a quarter VDI was 80 and confidence meter was high..For the tones at had it set at D4 for four tones.The ground balance numbers and phase worked hand in hand real well.I really liked the Fe meter it should how miserable soil was here.But the F5 handled it with no problems.And I had no EMI problems at all.While the Tesoro Deleon that I had to return because of this soil conditions had failed miserable here.But the F5 had no problem handling it at all.I found the F5 right on for the most part reading foil,tabs etc.When I dug foil or tabs it was what it read.The F5 did get fooled by the old fashion screw caps though.But I quickly learned to ID trash by bouncing on meter.Large metal would show up on the Fe meter also which was nice.So my take today was 4 quarters ,2 dimes,4 pennies,1 metal spoon ,1 duck key chain,,and 1 working cell phone found. I was able to return cell phone to its rightful owner (she was happy to get her phone back) So I was happy today,got some fresh air,found some clad ,and F5 works for me I"M HAPPY:clapping:
 
Glad to hear you're enjoying the F5.

Like you, I had a Deleon. It was a decent detector, but I definitely prefer the F5 for performance and design.

Just curious, WC.......why would you want your threshold set at -3? Unless you are countering some EMI, you would be missing out on some weaker target signals.
 
I also set my f5 -2 -3 because I'm digging in super hard clay here in this part of Virginia and the week signals are too deep to spend 1/2 hour to dig just to find it was a piece of iron. Of coarse when I"m on softer ground I set it at pluse -2-3 and gain at 65-80
most of my finds are in the 0 to 5" range. Yesterday I found a couple of silver dimes 10 pennies 2 nickles 3 quarters (6" deep thresh set at 0) Also for some reason there is not to many pull tabs. This park has a hard clay base after 3-4inches down
 
Great finds Woodchuck. I'm loving my F5. I plan on taking it out tomorrow. I will post what I find! :detecting:
 
Hi WC, I followed your troubles that you had with your Deleon on the tesoro site. Glad that you found the F5. I am torn between the at pro that is coming out or the f5. I won't buy one until next spring or summer when I visit the U.S. again. You saved me for the deleon. I do own a old tesoro lobo , not super trac, that I have had for years. It is a good machine, but is going in for repairs soon. The connections all corroded on me and it won't even power up. Climate here is very tough on metal. One reason I am considering the at pro is because it is completely waterproof. I love the reviews on the F5 though. Until I can get some feedback later next year on the a.t. it will continue to b my first choice. I live in Costa Rica in the rain forest. It is hot an humid all year long. You F5 owners, I could use all your input on your machines. I haven't read anything negative about them yet, I understand that they are build in Texas, is that correct?
 
Lorin Fisher is now owned by First Texas company and they are based in Texas.Water proof means resistant to water.but not completely water proof, unless it is under water detector.living in Costa Rica you are definitely going to have to protect what ever detector you get from the elements. i:e water,moisture,condensation,rain etc.
 
[size=large]the Garrett AT Pro is billed as water proof to ten feet. now inside condensation might be differant. i too am looking at the same machines.
one for all weather and one from a line with a famous depth reputation. likewise will be waiting to hear and seperate the hype on the garrett. there's a t.v. show called the meteorite men. they use a fisher and stated on the show it was because of the better depth than any other brand. they use the f-75.
don't know if it's just someones opinion or research by the production company.
how long has the f-5 been out?
