First hunt with new F5?? Newb messed up!!

OK, I am a newbie and bought an advanced machine, the F5, and probably messed up. I can't pinpoint. I am digging to find nothing. I may be getting interference?? changed freq. to no avail. I just can't seem to "understand" my machine settings. Ex: gain, threshold, etc... I know the basic use, but can't tweak them to save my life. i had a 50, -1 setting yesterday and was getting a 89-93 reading, dug quite a bit and could not find anything.

I also should say I am digging in wooded private property, and I am backfilling my holes.

4 hours and all I found was junk, that took me 20 minutes to dig and find. I also think my pinpointer would be better served in a dumpster?

Pointer is a bounty hunter (teknetics). it just feels like cheap, plastic junk! I have always assumed Bounty hunter stuff was cap, because Wal-mart carries them, am I wrong in my thinking?

Hey Bud,

Don't fret. It takes a bit to learn the language of the detector. Run your gain at 75 and your threshold at -9 until you start to get a hold on what it's telling you. Leave the disc at minimum and run the D2 or D3 mode. Don't give up. You learn by doing it.

its like anything else it takes time .how many times did you fall learning to walk?ride bike? keep at it and all things come to those who wait.so keep diggin junk- we all dug and stil are diggin junk.

Is my pointer(bounty hunter) worth keeping. I could possibly upgrade to a bullseye, but that would require the wife's approval or :stretcher:

Have you tried burying a few different types of coins and junk at 3"-5" depth and then experimented with your settings ? This usually helps on a new machine you are just learning,Ray
PS Good Luck!

you might be able to contact to help you out? It can be a daunting task learning on your own. If possible try and find someone in your area who can help you out. Most of all don't give up in time it will come to you.

All three companies are owned by a holding company called First Texas and all are housed in the same building. They use the same electronic components to build all three brands, and the same engineers design and build machines for each of these companies.

You might find this post by Dave Johnson who is one of the lead engineers at First Texas and who designed the Fisher CZ series (among other machines) made on the relationship between Fisher, Bounty Hunter and Teknetics an interesting read .....
