First hunt with the E-Trac

Crusty

.
So this is how the story goes...........

On Thursday I get the call that my AE-Track is in at Rob's (Golden Horseshoe Detector Sales). Since I was down south in Kitchener visiting I immediately headed to Rob's, one hour away, to pick up my new toy. I also purchased another rechargable battery pack. Once back in Kitchener I put the unit together in haste.

Here's a few pictures of the unit, in and out of box.

Flash forward to Friday

Sunny but cool outside....high of 1 degree. I head over to Treasure Hunter Dave's around 11:30 AM and we spend a few hours chatting while waiting for it to warm up a little. Doesn't happen so of course we head out anyway to an old park.
The ground is as hard as frozen ice cream but with some effort the digger will go into the ground. We decide to hunt anyways but agree that we will only dig targets that we think will produce a keeper, or targets that sound waired and we just have to know.

TH Dave dug his first LC and silver of the year. The silver was a nice early 1900's New Foundland nickel.
My first target dug was a clad penny, then I get what I think is a good silver signal and call TH Dave over to consult before I dig. With him watching I pop out a HUGE silver Vicky coin.....and we both go, " Ooooo".
We weren't quite sure what is was but it was old enough, an 1879. A while later I popped another silver coin, a 1945 Newfy 10 cents. I didn't really dig too many holes as my palm was hurting from forcing my Lesche into the hard ground.

Right after discovery.......and riding my coil.

The 1945 New Foundland silver dime. A first for me.

...and finally one of my best finds so far a HUGE silver 1879 Half Crown. Had to look in a book to figger out what it was. It's larger than a silver dollar.

That's one hunt down with the E-Track and lots of learning and frustration ahead. I wish I could say that I would not of found the Half Crown with my X-70 but that simply is not true. If I would of gotten my coil over it I'm sure I would have dug it.
I hope this is a sign of things to come.

The thing that gets me nervous is the new trend for bigger stock coils.
Most places I hunt have trash and wonder if the bigger coils will cause masking amongst the junk the ground.
