First hunt with the etrac....yes I am IMPRESSED

New member
got my etrac yesterday.......

and well today went to the yard I had all the interference with last week with my minelab x-70.

Took the etrac up front, hit noise cancel, and it ran smooth as a top, no interference at all. I had sensitivity in auto and it was 23, and I had +1, so it was running at 24. First signal I get is a deep dime signal. I cut the plug, open it up, out comes a nail, I scratch my head thinking hmmm, it was definitely a dime signal, ran out hole again. Dime signal still strong, pinpointer goes into the hole, out comes a second nail. I am getting frustrated. Run coil over the hole, dime signal is still there! Take a bit more dirt out and I see a silver rim in the bottom of the hole. Pull it out and it is a barber dime! 1902........I was literally AMAZED the etrac saw this dime underneath 2 nails. I was impressed to say the least!

Next I got a mixed signal, but it sounded good from all directions, cut a plug and got a silver nickel and 2 wheats, nice little spill. Ended up with one more wheat.

So two silver, and 3 wheats........2 hour hunt. First hunt with the etrac impressed me big-time!

Sweet silver!! Enjoy your new Etrac. Silver will become the new zinc penny after awhile, you will be getting tired of digging em up:rofl:

Actually it was supposed to find nails the first 30 hours. That's highly unfair you yard being the graveyard for 1900's parking meters. You got lucky on the dime/nickel and wheats....:poke::laugh:

Thanks for the story and the video. Keep'm coming!!!!

By George Terry all your old grounds have become virgin territory again! I'm definately gonna pass through there on the metal detecting vacation before you clean sweep the place:minelab:E Trac kicks some serious tail as you can see. We'll need more bandwidth soon I can see it coming. What are you gonna do with the ExTerra, use it for a boat paddle? Great video and welcome to here......................

I am keeping the xterra as a backup in case the etrac ever goes down. I am praying it doesn't.... but two friends of mine that have etracs had to have both of theirs serviced before the 6 month mark. Sure hope I am lucky and it doesn't happen to me!

Looks like you and your new E-trac will be getting along just fine!

I'm not gonna say anything about one going down, mine would be next......knock on wood......Just keep her close and stroke her softly and, well, don't just throw her in the back of a truck and ride her around.

Sell the Xterra. Get another Etrac as back-up. Life is tooooooo short to hunt with anything other than an Etrac.

I've been hunting with Fishers and Garretts for over 30 years. Switched to the Etrac last year. Now going back to "hunted out" places and recovering the best coins of my life. Last Sunday, I hunted the front yard of an 1850's house which I had hunted succesfully with my Garrett for the past 20 years. I was confident that there was nothing left, but wanted to see if the Etrac could pull a few more out. My first signal was an 1870 Indian Head, then a few feet away, I got that smooth silver chirp at 8 inches, 12-46 on the meter. I knew it was something good, so I cut a big plug. Down in the bottom of the hole was the big Piece of Eight! Then after hunting about an hour without a decent signal, Boom!, there's the 1875 Seated Liberty dime at 5". Online research confirmed the Piece of Eight was cut from an 1784 Don Carlos Spanish Dollar minted in Mexico.

Glad to see you got the E-Trac, You're going to love it. I've had mine since they first came out and no problems with it so far (knock on wood).

I see you don't have the Sunray probe yet. Do yourself a favor and get one. It will be the best accessory you'll ever buy for your machine.

Nice digs!

Great first hunt with your new E-Trac.
I think you're going to be very satisfied with your decision to upgrade from the X-70.

Congrats,

G4E,

Congrats on obtaining your Etrac and on your first finds.
Thanks for the video too.
I guess we won't see you over in the Xterra forum much anymore...you will be missed over there I think.

I am half way saved to get mt Etrac...I save my finds dollars and cents and they go in piggy bank Etrac fund.

Terry...did you find the Etrac hard to get used to / started on ? .
..do you find it easy to set up and get swinging ?
I'm not a particularly tech. savy guy and all the Tracs functions scare me a little.
I've had a year and a bit with my xterra 70...about 800 hours.
Thanks

super simple to use. This hunt you saw on video was my first hunt, first target was the barber under the nails, it is an easy to turn on and go detector. I just ran it in auto sensitivity, and stock coin mode.

my buddy who uses an etrac still (after a year) uses stock coin programs and digs 7-8" coins all the time, you really CAN just turn it on, noise cancel and go. You do NOT need to fiddle with anything

Terry,

Thanks for your reply mate.

Good luck & Happy hunting.
