Took my new Omega out for only around 90 minutes today and the rains came. Found $2.13 , all quarters, 1 dime and 3 pennies. One was a 1930 wheat which come in around 75 or so. It was 6in. deep but my signal bounced some on it. I will say the area was a well hunted park and the pulltab screw cap signals were also every sweep of the stock coil. I was only able to run the sensitivity around 45 or so. To much emi here, I have had the same problem with other detectors here also. The ground balance was around 50, give or take alittle. Question can you use the ground grab feature when in the discrimination mode or do you have to switch to all metal ? The owners manual is now real clear on this feature. My first thoughts were real good, but it's way to soon to say for sure. Pinpointing was very good. Target ID for the most was good. Very light and well balanced and I like the size of the screen. I used three tones and when it sounded high tone all but twice it was a coin. Looking forward to going back and using the 5in.DD coil in the trash. I know there are other good targets hiding. Plan on hunting a older country school thursday. I have never hunted it before but it probably has been hunted before. We shall see what treasures it has left? Like reading other peoples thoughts and experiences with the Omega. Thanks Joe from Wisconsin

The Ground Grab is Auto ground balance...after a while try to Manual ground balance in all metal... i do it in deep woods or fields and hunt into the noise the Omega has one sweet sounding threshold rock steady,and runs as deep as you can get.

Ground Grab, yes you can fine tune it on the fly, if the ground changes you can increase or decrease the ground balance by using the up/down buttons.
No Its not automatic!
Its scans the ground as you hunt and if the graft shows a change (not just up and down) but an average either below or above your manual ground balance setting you can use the up/down buttons to correct for the changing conditions.
Try it next time your out,
Set the ground balance,
get that number, like 50,
as your hunting push the up button and hold it for a couple of seconds, your ground balance number will display and start going up! then just hold the down and it will go back down.
It will also change when you just short term push it, but its takes several times to change a whole number.

Jim tn is right about the ground balance, you can do it disc mode. You mentioned that the VID jumped around a bit....I have found this is fairly normal with my Omega once you start detecting deeper stuff, particularly if the soil is in layers (e.g. top dressing & built up areas of playing fields), and I guess the deeper you go, the more chance there is of multiple targets affecting the readout, even if those targets are not in exactly the same spot as the intended target. HH Pete

The Omega does use "Ground Grab" for ground balancing, you perform the ground balance as the manual states. The unit will ground balance and display the value when completed, so that is automatic.
But, unlike some other brands and models of detectors the Omega doesn't track and auto adjust for ground condition changes, it only tracks and displays the information for the user. At that point the operator can if needed simply adjust the ground balance via the +/- membrane button found above and below the "GND GRAB" button, and that adjustment can be done while in discrimination mode. Its more of a manual compensation for ground changes rather than the ground balance at the start of a hunt.
