My Brand New 705 has been sitting in the closet for well over a month. I finally had the time to take it out and
see if I was going to be a keeper! I went to a local park in Iowa called "Old Settlers Park" Located in southeast
corner of Iowa. The Park itself dates back to around the time when the city was settled in 1833 and has been
hunted to death with lots of old coins coming to light in years past... When I got to the
park and assembled the X-Terra I slipped my newly acquired 3kh 9" concentric on, turned on the detector and
let the X-Terra decide which Frequency to choose (1). I then found a Place to Ground Balance the detector and
to my surprise it GB'd at 14, very low compared to my back yard six mile's away that Ground Balanced in the mid
30's.... There's was plenty of iron in this old park and the Ground was leaving allot to be desired as it
was hard and broke up into a fine powder when I was removing the targets from the hole. My settings on the 705
were as follows.
Volume- (Max)
Auto Ground Balanced at (14)
Disc. (All Metal)
Tones (99)
Pinpoint (Sizing mode)
sensitivity (25)
Auto Frequency (1)
Threshold (1)
My First Target Gave a Nice High Tone and turned out to be the Clad Dime a couple inches from the surface...Not long after
a Memorial Cent turn up at the same depth.... After this was a learning experience for me about the 705.
As you can see by the photos I dug 10 lead bullets and one casing. What was unique to me was the responses I received
with each lead recovered. The lead targets gave out a Broken sound that ranged from -8 to up to the 40's not really locking
on to any number, just giving a iron tone with a broken medium to high tone! The first lead was at the bottom of my digger
around 7" deep. Some had Iron close by so I thought this was effecting the signal response of the lead which read around 12
as I waved the handful of Dirt and the Target across the coil to see if I had it in hand..... What was strange to me, was after
finding the target and disposing of the dirt in hand and waving the lead across the Nine inch LF concentric coil, the target
read in the 30's... I guess the soil being so dry and high in Iron content had a severe effect on the I.D. (just guessing).
To sum it all up! The X-Terra surpassed my expectations using the LF 9" concentric in these conditions! I never dug this much
lead since My Compass X-100 or Goldscanner Pro! ..... I think this is "excellent performance" from a VLF running a 3Khz coil.
No doubt if I had run the coil across a Deep High Conductor I would have found it, but maybe next time I will try my 6" concentric
and see what happens......The X-Terra 705 is a Keeper for sure!
Any thought's or comments will be appreciated as I always look forward to those that are more knowledgeable with there detectors
than me!
