First Hunt!!!

Heya,

I just came back from my first hunt. This XP Deus is different than the E-Trac. To be honest I read the book By Andy and still was clueless. I did find GM the best for this hunt. I was suprised that the lead bullets came up so high, they came in at 81-86. None of the items were deep, but gave a good signal. I did try going for a signal that was barely audible and give no VDI, But i got tried of digging.
I do have an question. I did the GB pumping, it GBed at 76, but i placed it back to 90. Was i wrong to change the GB back.

Thank you for looking,

CJ

Yes, coming from the Etrac will be a little bit of a learning curve but hang in there, it is worth it! Did you notice if any of your FE bars were lit on the far right side of the display? If so, a GB is the thing to do. Usually GBing in just one spot can give you a false impression of the true ground conditions. Sometimes it can be hard to find a clean spot to GB where your not hearing iron. Just don't let one GB setting drive your decision. Usually a GB number of 76 is a little hot meaning your ground could be a bit mineralized. I just don't know if a reading of 76 is hot enough to stimulate at least one FE bar on your Deus. Maybe some others can chime in as my ground isn't that hot. If you have a consistent reading of 76 at several locations where you hunt, I would do a manual GB regardless if your FE bar is lit or not.

Thank you.

I hunt a GA, the ground here is rough it looks like iron power. Some spots I can not get a GB,but with the Etrac I would put it in Auto. The down side to that is it would just null out
over patches of ground. I was thinking of tracking for the XP Deus, But i didn't want to loose any depth. The best thing About the Xp is that I got the Cap mixed in with a bunch of nails.

Thank you again,
CJ

I used my E-Trac for over 7 years and I still use it on a regular basis.
Both have their strong points - if you could combine the best features from each of them into one - you would have the greatest metal detector that was ever made !
I got my Deus about a year ago and it's now my go to machine - I use it about 90 % of the time and I've made a lot of great finds with it.

Be patient - take what you know about the hobby and just spend time in the field with the Deus - everything will fall into place.
The Deus is nothing short of fantastic !

Good Hunting !
