Two weeks ago I had a great hunting expereince at a park I had never been to before. Life has been so busy I just got a moment to post this. Anyway, I stopped a little park in the middle of nowhwere. I was out in this area researching an old ghost town that I plan on hitting later this week with my cousin Bob. The park isn't very large and is in the center of town and all the houses surronding the park are quite old. In fact there is a cemetery across the street that I believe dates around 1880 or so and a school from the early 1900's kitty corner from park (which I plan on hitting as well sometime in the future). I only had a few hours to hit the place up and bad weather was starting to roll in.
My first signal I dug up was an 1896 injun, this got the blood pumping so I slowed my swing down and within 2 minutes I hit a very deep iffy sounded signal not more that a a couple feet away from the injun. I was able to get 2, maybe a 3 way hit on it, and it was bouncing from far right middle to top middle on the smart screen. After digging down more than 8 1/2 inches, I saw the sweet rim of a silver coin....I pulled an 1899 Barber dime in awesome condition, you can see the liberty printed across the heads and it sure looks lovely.
Throughout the course of the few hours I ended digging a 1906, 1902, and a 1900 indian head.
On one of my last signals that I dug, I hit a deep silver sound that I just knew was silver. Man what a feeling, I got so excited I ended up scratching it as I dug the plug
, it was a worn down 1892 Barber Dime...My first multiple Barber day!!! How cool. I was one year, actually a half of year from a Seated since I believe they made both Seated and Barber Dimes in 1892.
The craziest thing was I never found a single Wheatie, I either found shallow clad or deep turn of the century coins, what a great day. I can't wait to go back this week with Bob, we are going to tear it up.
