First Outing With The 10 x 14 Excelerator

Hit a farm field today with the SE and the new 10 x 14. It was a new field for me but has been hunted plenty by some others. My buddy Karl was there with his Quattro and 12.5" Excelerator coil. He got a flat button and a Buffalo nickel. I got two wheats, two buttons, and a musketball.

The new coil is definitely THE BOMB. I was running it at manual 28 sens and raised the gain to 7 and it was stable as a rock. I even cranked it to 30 for a time and it was great until I got near some power lines and then I had to drop to 26. Once I got a little away from them I went back to 28. It's especially immune to falsing when knocking against bean stalks and such, which is great because my stock coil is not good in that respect. I find the new coil to be very smooth and stable and has great depth and pinpoints well. I can see this becoming my "main squeeze" coil and the little 4.5 x 7 being my specialty coil for trashy sites and iron-laden areas.

So the site wasn't that "hot", but it was good to test the coil and see that it runs very well and I'm looking forward to hitting some other sites with it soon. And the beach...need to test it there, even though I'm an Excal guy on the beach. :)

it seems to be a nice coil..is it close to SE stock coil or explr2?
Alex.

When you say is it "close to SE stock coil or explr2?" What do you mean? It's an apples and oranges thing. Those two couls are 10.5" round coils and this is a 10" x 14" eliptical coil. In my experience, it's a more stable than both of those coils, can be run a little "hotter" sensitivity-wise, and has at least as much depth with better ground coverage. Here are some pics of it compared to the stock coil where you can clearly see the difference.

I have the 10x14 for the DFX and it has done a good job for me so far. I need to get one for my Explorer as I have some open areas I would like to try it on.

I meant new SE stock coil much thinner, lighter and dos not float in a water.. like old explr2 coil. Dos a 10" x 14" elliptical coil float in a water?
Waterproof?

Thanks
Alex.

Alex, it is waterproof and it's both heavier and thicker than the stock coil, though not overly-so. I have not had it to the beach but I saw a post where somebody did and said it did great. It definitely would not float. I use the Excal at the beach with the 10" BBS coil. Though I am anxious to try the 10 x 14 at the beach a little, just to see what she'll do. When I get the chance to do that I will post on it. HH!
