My buddies and I decided to take a trip out to the desert to do a little shooting, so i figured i would bring my MD along as well. I have had my X-Terra 705 for a little over a week and this was the first time i have been able to use the detector outside of my backyard (where i was able to dig up a handful of clad, foil and pull tabs). In the few hours i spent detecting, i found quite a few mangled pieces of lead and copper as well as numerous old shell casings. I was very impressed at how well the X-Terra handled the highly mineralized ground i was in. I was finding .22lr casings and very old lead/copper at 4-6'' deep in prospecting mode. I have no doubt that this machine would work for nugget shooting and plan to do more as i get the time. Next time, I would like to go to a more gold-rich area. I had also brought a wash bucket along with a gold pan to see if there was any gold in the area and found very little color in any of the test pans. I think my next trip will be to some of the local parks or beaches in search of coins and other goodies. Overall I have been very happy with the X-Terra 705. For me, it has been fairly easy to learn (although i am sure i still have a long way to go) and seems like a great all-around machine.

Between that e-book and the FAQFAQ sticky at the top of this sub-forum page, you have more useful information available than the average human can absorb.

HELP---I got the 705. Read the manual. Work on getting to know the settings. Thought i had it figed out. (not)
air tested it in the house with silver Q and dime. 10" on Q.. Took it out side to my test bed. Will not detect Dime or Q at 7".
I hope I did not make a bad chose. I went from teknetic t2se to this 705. The t2se would nail the coins with out any trouble.

The Xterra 705 is just as deep as any other machine.Just set it up properly and you have a deep machine.A 10.5"DD MF would of course be deeper,The 5x10 is at 18.75kHz and I have tested them two on the same
object and there was some difference in depth.And also if you crank up the sensitivity you will see some changes.
Skip the discrimination,i did it a long time ago,it take away to much of the good stuff and signals are not as clear as all metal.Learn all metal is my personal advice.

Have you downloaded Randy's free e-book yet? If not, then I highly recommend it. The manual only tells you how to operate the unit, but the e-book tells you how to get the most out of it.digadime69 said:

It's an easy read, and the machine isn't that difficult to learn, but the book cuts the time required to understand the basics of it's operations, and what to expec when you make changes to adjustments.

I also was able to pick up the 9" 7.5 Concentric used on ebay for 60 bucks! That coil seems to be a little better coin shooter, at least at some of my local parks with low mineralization. The more i am able to get out and actually swing it, the more comfortable i get. Between the e-book and you guys (and gals) here on the forum, there is definitely a ton of helpful information out there.
