First post and F4 AA battery mod.

RADAR1

New member
Hi good MD people. As a newbie to this forum I thought I'd first introduce myself then mention a recent addition I've made to my F4. I live, work and search in the UK, have a very understanding wife, two grown up daughters and a mad dog called Coco. I've had a fascination with electronics (I teach radar systems) all my working life and discovered detecting in the seventies subsequently building several machines including two IB discriminators. I mainly search the local beaches and have very recently purchased my first commercial machine, a Fisher F4.
Anyway as good as the F4 is I didn't want to keep forking out for PP3 batteries so hence the mod and link to the details below. Hope I'm not breaking any forum rules by placing the link and hope it may be of interest. Thanks.

Dude you never posted the link... and you need to do a few more post so you are able to get Private Messages.

Have you measured how much more operating time you get with those AA's compared to 9 volt batteries?

HH,

patti

Hi patti,
Difficult to estimate at the moment as I haven't run the battery packs for long enough for them to need recharging. But typically a PP3 rechargeable may supply 300mAh whereas the AA's I'm using are rated at 3000mAh.
So the AA batteries could (in theory) last around 10 times longer than the PP3 (3000/300 = 10) before needing a recharge.
Hope this helps.
