Just got the new Etrac the day before Thanksgiving and had a chance to take it out a few times! This is one SWEET machine. I sold an Explorer SE to purchase the Etrac and am very happy with the decision. Just a couple observations on the difference. I have found the ET to be much better is high trash areas. I detect a lot of parks and schools where there is a lot of modern trash littering the hunting areas. This machine will "sniff" a coin out of some of the most heavily trashed areas I have ever seen......might be the new pro coil that helps in that too!
Another observation is that I have found the "pinpoint" to be much better on the ET. In fact, you don't really even have to use the Pinpoint function. The machine will almost Pinpoint on its own...saving time (this also might be a function of the pro coil???). The depth on this machine is truly remarkable. It loves dimes and quarters and will sniff one out at 8" no problem, in the sandy soils of eastern NC. I have found the descrimination to be awesome on this machine too! If it reads 12/45-46 is it is a clad dime. If it reads 12/46-47 it is a clad quarter or small silver. All and all, this is the most awesome coin hunting machine I have ever had in my hand, and I have owned quite a few over the years.
Some have asked if there is a difference in the sound on "deep silver". Yes, there is a difference in sound if your ears are really sensitive to high frequencies. There is a distinct difference between a clad quarter and a silver dime in sound. But the difference is very, very subtle and the meter will be almost the same. I can best describe the difference in pitch as TING A LING A LING A LING A LING A LING for silver dime ......versus......TENG A LENG A LENG A LENG A LENG for a clad quarter. I have found both to read 12/46-47. In either case, the sound is very repeatable in all directions for both. I found a silver ring that had the TING A LING sound with a reading of 11/48-49.
Now......if someone can give me instructions on how to get my 1.2MB photos of my finds sized down to the 420K that is allowed here for a download, I will post some pics of the first three outings.
Hope this helps some of you who are "on the fence" about buying a new ETRAC. From a former Coinstrike, CZ3D, Garrett, Minelab EX SE owner.......buy an ETRAC. You won't regret it!!!
Thanks,
Robert
