I've been detecting 30 years and have found seated dimes and half dimes but this is my first quarter! I was using the new excelerator 4x7 DD and this little coil is hot. The ground at this old school was extremely dry as we haven't had but a half inch of rain in two months. The area was infested with iron and I decided to run in iron mask -6. I was running in the digital mode when I got the 00-31 and 00-29 for a reading. It finally locked on the 29 and I dug. I cut about a 4 inch plug out and saw a nail sticking straight up. At first I thought this was my only target, as I pulled it out and re-checked the hole, I got a 29 again. Removing some more dirt there was the 1877 quarter! That darn nail was standing right on the coin as you can still see where it stained the coin. The Explorer is certainly an amazing machine and so is the little coil. The coil was great at seperation and for pinpointing, the target would drop off the front of the coil.
My next find would be a 18k wedding band which was 4 inches deep along an old foundation. It doesn't look like gold in the picture but after cleaning the tar off of it, it finally looks like gold. I was running in smart screen with my old coin and gold program together when I found it.
Tomorrow I will be heading there again as my time was cut short having to head to work. I just hope there are some more seated's lurking there waiting to come out of their graves!!
