Hi All, hope everyones holiday season was great. Added a new coil to the treasure hunting arsenal, a 15" WOT. Had a chance to give it a try today. I was able to manage a couple keepers. The barber dime was around the 10" mark, with a very good signal. The silver nickel was close to 8" and the buffalo was only 5-6". But both gave very good signals. I also scored a few wheatie pennies 8-10"s. Seems like this coil is definitely a keeper. It will take a little getting used to but it sure hits hard on coins, it also seems very sensitive to small targets. I dug a few very small whatz-its from some impressive depths. Hi Butch, I am wondering how the handling is with the WOT on the Quattro? Is there very much lower shaft flexing? Ok nice finds and I am using the Platypus on my Quattro right now. God Bless ya Butch.

Hi John. Lower rod flex didn't seem to be a problem. Weight didn't seem to be any different then the stock 10.5" coil. The one thing I did notice was the WOT doesn't slide on the grass as good as the stock coil, more drag. Pinpointing wasn't to bad, I expected it to be harder. Overall I was very happy with it.

Sound like the Wot is going to go deep. I wish I had one myself. Is it going to be hard to handle in trash? Looks like the ground isn't froze yet. Down here it's rain rain rain. I'm ready to add some flippers to my hunting gear.
 
Right on Rainey!:detecting: I'd love to get the 15" wot coil. I'm trying to fill the old piggy bank now for it down the road. I've heard a lot of good about that coil. Was there any special wiring you had to do to use it, i.e. (modifications on the Quatro or the coil)? Great finds, and thanks for sharing. Marc.
 
Hi Beachguy, Coiltek makes a WOT for the Quattro It also comes with a cover. Plug N Play whattaya say!

Hi Marc. No special wiring or mods needed. But getting the lower rod with it makes for an easier time of switching coils.
 
Yes it does go deep. Not real sure how it will handle the trash yet I've only had it out in one spot so far and there wasn't alot of trash there at all. I'm sure its gonna take some getting used to.

Very nice coins Butch! I was wondering, what kind of soil did you get the bottom coin out of? I notice it's worn away, and unfortuately some of the old pennies I find come out like that too. Is the ground very dry where you dug it? As for the other two coins they are in great condition, I love all the detail!

Thanks Angela. It seems no matter what the soil type, our nickels always come out of the ground very nasty looking. I wish they looked like the silver.

Thanks Rainy. That's good to know. Maybe it's the Sun Ray probe that needs the modifications and stuff. Man I love the sound of what I'm hearing from you guys about that coil. I agree with you to get the lower shaft. I did that for my 5" coil and it makes life easier when your changing coils. Take care, Marc.
 
Man I say: "I love plug and play, and that certainly makes life easier when you buy one". I'd love to purchace one of those "bad boys". It sounds like a really good coil from what I'm reading here. Thanks for the info.:twodetecting::cheers::|
 
Nice silver to start the year. Did better than my first(rosie).

I have a 15" WOT. It has very limited application. Makes the machine very heavy. Biggest advantage is covering more area. In my opinion it gets just a little more depth but barely.

So, how did you end up for 2006? Nate and I had our best year. Of coarse we have only been serious with this hobby the last year or two.

Hi BOB. It doesn't seem to weigh much more but there is quite a bit of drag going over the ground. The stock coil seems to slide on the grass better. As far as depth haven't used it enough yet to make a real determination on that. The few deep coins I have found probably would have been heard with the stock coil, but not sure they would have sounded so good. Oh well just like everything else it will take some getting used too. As far as last years totals I ended up with 158 silver coins and 87 Indians + other assorted goodies V-nickels, buffalo nickels, large cents etc. I usually only keep track of the silver and Indians. All in all not a bad season, it will be a tough act to follow. The good thing is our weather is very mild. As long as the ground doesn't freeze I'll be out diggin'.
