First silver of the year

After spending several fruitless hours digging trash at the beach this morning I decided to swing by an old fairgrounds to see if the Omega could cough up an oldie or two. The fairgrounds is long gone having been replaced by sports fields. 30' behind second base I get this nice tight high tone that repeated from 90 degrees. After digging wheat after wheat last fall somehow I just knew this 'tight' sounding high tone was gonna be something better than a wheatie.

Here's the pretty lady!

Shortly after digging the dime I got another high tone that was a bit iffier sounding but repeated enough to tell me I had to check it out. about 6" down up came a piece of iron spiral shaped like part of a corkscrew (maybe thats what it is?) kept digging and about 2" below that up came another..... wheatie .

Nice find! Which coil (coils) were you using, both in the park and at the beach? Just interested, cos I've used both the 10" concentric and the 11" DD, but not the 5" coil yet.

The 11" DD stays on the Omega about 90% of the time. After hitting the beaches 2 days in a row and hunting in all metal most of the time I needed a little break. The Omega was running stable there with the sensitivty at 90 and I could have turned it up higher. I hunt in the 1 and 2 tone modes most of the time but used d3 this time to do a little cherry picking. Before digging the dime I tried notching out foil just to see if there would be any loss in response and there was no change whatsover. Disc was set a bit below 16 so I could hear some of the iron in the ground. I usually like to hear it all but after those 2 days in all metal my ears needed a break!

Tom.

Thanks Tom,
I hope to be going to some beaches in about a week (for a few days)....am taking the Omega with me. I've been doing most of my hunting in d1 lately..I like it in the trashy areas I've been messing around in. I intend to try all metal at the beach, though I know there will be a lot of black sand around, and I'm not sure what condition the beaches will be in...suppose I'll just have to wait and see, then play it by ear.:)

Nice find there. Beat me by 10 years.... LOL I got a 1916 on Sunday with my Omega using 11" coil.
