First Texas Experience

Like alot of folks I was curious about those Radio Shack 3300's, so I bought 2 of them with 4",10" coils.
Right from the store I sent them to First Texas and asked them to calibrate the whole works together and sorta check over and make sure everything was A-1 working( I heard horror stories about poor manufacturing standards).
I also asked to have my detectors upgraded to full sized armcups and locking lower rods. I told them to call with an estimate.
A couple days later a knowlegable technician called and told me everything checked out allright, all components were calibrated and locking lower rods and full sized armcups were installed. I asked how much to make the check out for and was told its on the house.
I was amazed as this was alot of stuff done, time was spent and this is a rare practice.
A few days later a well packed box arrived containing my goodies and an itemized list of what was done, and sitting right on top was a brand new heavy duty set of headphones!
I know First Texas is trying to change their image from the walmart detector company of these past few years, and it will be an uphill battle as we continue to associate them with shoddy workmanship, but I can only report on my own experience and what happened, but I do hope we keep an open mind to a companies attempt to shed its past association.
I'm old enough to remember when Japanese radios first appeared, they were cheap plasticky things, crude nobody liked them, but within a few years.. things change,
I wish FT luck in the future, that they push the envelope and develope new inovative detectors that we will be the direct benificieries of.

Sounds great, but if every 3300 owner sends his in now to get free headphones and locking poles FT may be broke before they release their new fishers.
Anyway the 3300 is the most underrated detector on the marked.(I have two too).
