First time find of an old coin type...

Howdy,

Went out again with the SE, still hanging on to the 8x6 SEF and running in Manual. I'm able to get up to 28 a lot without too much fussing, but do need to back off sometimes. I'm still playing in the mosh pit of signals, chasing the iffy ones and looking for the ones that sound deep. Going by audio mainly, with the Smart screen giving a second opinion (especially while pinpointing).

Found six straight Wheaties in a row, then switched to another section of the area. I decided to just walk a straight line for 50-100 yards and stick with it. Finally got a squeaker with promise, and was able to recover a Merc. The plugs go to the depth of the hilt on the Lesche, and the targets are still in the ground, so I'm always hopeful of some age.

Got another Wheat signal not too far from the Merc, and recovered it. Then I got another Wheat sounding signal not much farther along, and this one I had to chase. It was deeper than others, and ended up sounding off to the side. The signal was strong on the X-1 probe, but I still couldn't pull it up. I was thinking I had something large, like a lock, and it was throwing the distance off, but then the signal finally appeared in the dirt tailings. To my surprise, I found my first George V Canada small cent, 1921. And as luck would have it, it was down in soft sandy soil, and survived nicely.

I passed up a lot of surface signals, holding out for the deeper ones. Got a couple Memorials at the 4 inch layer or so, which are always a coin toss. Just have to recover them though.

Lots more ground to cover here too. I never seem to get tired of pulling out the Mercs. Go figure.

DirtFlipper WTG , Weat you on the stock setings??? I just got a SE and im still a newbie, I had Whites for 20+ years im a newbie to the Explorer???
Mickfin, Thanks D/F

Nikon Coolpix for the camera.

Nope, not a 42/41 (ever hopeful though, I keep checking them when found)

I run in Iron Mask mode, set at 22. Gain at 8, Variability/Limits each at 10, Conductive, Normal tones. I also came off White's, but I didn't last too long in the SE factory settings. I would recommend starting in factory settings, Coin mode, in a less trashy area until things start to click. But I ran an MXT at +2 gain, so was somewhat used to lots of signals. I can't really explain it, but the SE just 'made sense' once that sweet high tone warble started in. I still need to learn nickels though...

Nice coins, especially that Canadian cent. They struck only 7.6 million of these; whereas, the US struck 39.1 minion in 1921 (that's just the Philadelphia mint). That makes your coin scarcer, especially to find it in the US. HH

Thanks D/F , Mickfin
