Found my 1st IH and was the deepest coin to date for me. It's a 1896 and found at 12" plus....
I could barly hear a wobble of a sound even in pin point and IM. Not sure if I should post it as it is highly corrded. But here goes. Not pretty but HAY it's my first.......Remember yours ???
IT was snowin as I dug it up. Hands cold and could not make out what it was till I got home and took dirt/clay off of it. I'm guessin that the wheaties I get are so corroded because of the sand content in the soil where I'm gett'em. This IH is a good example of how they look in Beach area here in Western NY.
Some of the wheaties I find at local homes in the area are not in such a bad condition. Any one else experience this ???
 
It's neat finding anything older than your parents and grand parents. I also think about how the coin was lost and by whom, an adult, a little child? And how much the coin would buy back when it was lost. Congrats Pulltabby! <img src="/metal/html/tongue.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":b">
 
I think you got me beat in the grungy category though... Any idea what year yet?

After cleaning it as best as I can I've determined it to be a 1896 and very poor with envirmental damage.Grungy as you put it...... <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">
What year was your and C O N G R A T S on your first one also.(Nice feelin) <img src="/metal/html/grin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":grin">
 
where I dug it and what it looked like. That looks like salt water damage (if black) - can't always tell from these pics.
Older copper will always look worse from same area. Wheaties were not in ground as long as IH's. Only exception is fertilizers in one area and none in another.

I also wonder on all the older coins i find and depending on condition and year as to when it was lost, what it would buy, what the person was doing when it was lost, kind of put myself back in those years and realize maybe how good we have it now.
