First time out with Fisher F70

Hello everyone I got out today with my new F70. I've Benn reading about this detector for some time and getting help of this forum from most of you so thank you all for the help. Anyways I didn't really have any place to go besides my driveway because my yard has 2 feet of snow in it yet.So I went in my drive way I don't live in an old house it was built in 1988 I believe and in my shell drive way I wasn't expecting much of anything. Well I fiddled with the settings in disc mode for a while I was hunting right under power lines so it was a bit chattery. So in fast mode I got it set up great with no chattering I got it on sen 65,disc 6 , thresh -2, and notch at 15 I ground balanced it and got 70-71 in dirt digits and I started detecting I got a little chatter so I backed to sens 63 and it ran quiet I threw a quarter on the ground and it ran perfect 6-7 inch air test strong signal which is great specially when I'm only running this at 60% of it's performance.
I then began detecting and my detector was going crazy so I raised the coil and it stayed between quarter and 50+ and it was a very strong signal it said 3 inches so I scraped the shell away and there it was 1inch top the ground 1974 quarter, I then began detecting again got a tab signal and for the heck of it I dug it and it was a tab, I began again and got a foil signal I dug and it was a piece of aluminum,I dug about 2 tab signals and 3 foil signals and they were all junk just like the detector said, I got a strong dime signal at 4 inches well 4 1/2 inches out popped a dime, I then went again got strong zinc signal out popped a penny 2 inches, all in all I found 3 penny's 1 dime, and 2 quarters all were I thought there was nothing at all. the depth reader is very accurate and I can't wait to get this thing to an old site were there's no power lines. So far this machine is turning out to be pretty good hopefully it stays this way.
Also i fiddled with the settings again in SL mode I got thresh -3 sens 60 notch 12 and disc 5 and I found out under power lines in an air test got 8-9 inches on quarter so it was 2-3 inches deeper then my first settings so I'm going to try this next and see if I missed anything. This machine is fairly easy to operate but I did use a few others in the past but this has the most settings then any other I used but so far its good. I'll let everyone know if I find anything good.

I also forgot to mension I was out for about 3 1/2 hours found 6 coins not the greatest I've evr did but hey I found 6 coins were I thought there was no coins, but it did take me a good part of the time playing with the settings so I got to know them and how they worked but now I think I got in down pretty well. I will keep everyone updated on the finds as long as they keep coming.
Thanks for taking the time to read

Steve,
I loved my F70. I moved on to a new F75 LTD but wouldn't mind having my old F70 as well. It was so light you could hunt all day and I always came back with a handful of clad and at least one or two oldie. Let's hope your snow moves out and you can find the grass soon. Keep us posted on how you do with your F70.

HH, Don

Glad to see your results Steve - keep us posted on any finds! I too am learning my new F70 - today I got it out to another section of local park away from everything, and was able to crank it up to 90 sens with -1 thresh in de mode and it ran great. I find mine is verrry sensitive to EMI and powerlines - and also to my cell phone!. Keep us posted on your finds.

HH,
Stephen

the more you use it the more your gonna love it :detecting:

Steve, glad your getting a handle on it. Maybe experimenting with those threshold settings was the ticket for calming the machine down. Im sure you'll run into some soil where you can really open it up and go deep. Good huntin. CO

yea I did find out my cell phone makes it more chattery so without the cell phone I got to crank it up a little more. And this thing is very sensitive to power-lines but I found out with a lot of fiddling I can get 8-9 inches on a quarter and about 8 on a penny right under power-lines without it going nuts. But yea I will definitely keep you all updated thanks for the replies.

hit my driveway again I think I got it covered had to play with some settings again got it to go real nice in SL mode under power lines I managed to find 3 more modern coins a dime and 2 pennies. the dime was about 5 inches and the 1 penny 6 inches and the other 1 inch I was impressed at the 6 inch penny it gave very loud and clear tone. and as for the other penny was a little jumpy but as I dug it It was in the ground sideways on end so was equally impressed. Might be hitting some old areas this weekend I'll let everyone know if I find any oldies.
