First time out with the Excalibur

After 7 years with the XLT I decided to take some good advice and bought an excalibur , I hit the treasure coast today for my first test run , a couple of hours in the soaking rain , man o man have I been missing out on some goodies ? I didnt find any Spanish silver just some clad and sinkers , the depth was incredible 18 to 24 inches no problem on quarters , dimes , nickels in the wet sand , no more rainy days with the plastic bag covering the box for me .Anybody else noticed how the sinkers sound like the noise you get while your giving the cat a bath ?

That's exactly what I originally called the Sovereign sounds; cat calls. I think you'll love the Excal Gary. Good hunting, David @ Dixie

The distinctive music of the Sovereign and the Excalibur (as the Excal is essentially a waterproof Sovereign) is something you will grow to love. You already know the benefits of hunting with a threshold, now you have a machine with some serious depth and the aility to punch down deep into that wet salt sand.
I hunted the beach for the last two summers myself with a Sovereign Elite and now have a brand new Excal ready to hit the beach this summer, rain or shine. Did you get a straight shaft setup for yours? Makes the balance very nice.

Hi Mike
Yes I got the different top shaft but it hasnt got the side guard to protect the knobs like yours in the photo , it is a good set up for spreading the weight a bit , I will have to get used to the heavyness espeically since I invested in a reillys monster scoop for the other arm , I will have arms like Rambo by the end of the year !

DROP ME A NOTE I HAVE AN EXCAL AND AM AT 14TH & FEDERAL HWY!PAT

Call me a sad b#stard but I went back to the van for my tape measure because I didnt believe the depth I was getting , they were faint breaks in the threshold and people told me , dig everything !

I can attest that 18"+ is a possible depth using the Sovereign and the WOT. I have gotten coins that deep that seem to have that green funky leached halo around the coin, indicating that it was not disturbed for many, many years. I verified the depth of the coin, using S-1 probe to pinpoint with inch markings on the probe cable. Once the halo was disturbed, the coin was no longer detectable in the same location.
This coin was found hunting in the all-metal mode. Finding targets at this depth can happen and those avid beach hunters who use the Sovereign and WOT coil will sometimes discover this depth on some targets.
