well first time out wit the mxt...found 3 pennys and a bunch of trash put together a test bed consisting of pennys nickles dimes and quarters. All burried approx 7 inches. Could not get a solid hit on any Am i doing something wrong here, had the ground balance on track and ground still nothing

With stock coil and even a 6" coil you should hit them my gnd reading here is 60s to89 and i would get a solid reading on those.Also when you bury new coins that deep sometimes they have not been in ground long enough to form a mineral ring or halo a lot of different scenarios or opinions on that.Threshold at 9 0 clock disc factory pre set coin mode gound in track trigger on shaft middle sens factory pre set or higher not unstable though should be good to go.You could try air test some coins were there is no interference and i believe ground in lock mode wave coins in front of coil at different distance.Hope this help some

Fred thanx for the info...im gonna try it out tomorrow and yes, CAPT DAVE NEEDS HELP!!! Problem is im used to the old Fisher CZ-7a...gotta get used to what the MXT is telling me...also what are your thoughts on the MXT EDGE book?

I have not herd anything bad about it even from people who have been using the Mxt a long time .I would read it if i could find a good used copy.There will probably be more people to help you tomorrow today is fri night and i think it is the first nice weather every where ex some state i seen on TV was having hail storms. Maybe this will help some.The mxt is a good machine i wish they would have upgraded some tones and a back light and digital notch in a new version people say m6 but i think it is missing prospecting mode.Hope this helps

Were you using the stock 960 coil?

What were your settings?

What type of ground make-up?

What sweep speed(s) did you try?

And after all that, keep in mind that fresh burying any coins is a good way to get a little understanding of how the detector might handle when the ground signal is factored in, but the fact remains that 7" is consistent with an honestly deeper coin find, and the freshly disturbed ground for each planting can cause some issues alone due to a differences fro the surrounding undisturbed ground.

It would be better to 'plant' test coins in the 3" to 4" range to get to know any detector, especially the MXT & M6.

Another thing to consider is your ground trash. A test plot needs to be free of all trash. You should detect the area you are making the coin garden in and clear out the trash. As already mentioned 3 to 5 inches max depth should work in freshly dug dirt.

Well i did make it out yesterday....found a few newer clad coins(quarters, dimes, and pennys) getting used to the machine more and more...found the ground readings were anywher from 30s to 80s....deepest find was about 5 inches on a dime....

Sometimes it is easier to hunt relic mode with trigger on shaft forward and listen for high tone check meter for vid number i usually run mine just so it picks up a nickel. Nickels here vid 18-20 penny 60s to 70s dime 80 81 quarter 82 83 85
