First time out with the Safari - very nice detector

Hey Mike, use Andy's tight coins setting of 14-16/32-38 you can really cherry pick the coins out of trash. Also wait till you get to the beach, you will need
a big scoop.

Thanks for the tip Dale, I'll check it out today. The one thing I really like with this detector is the ability to select individual disc points along the conductivity scale.
We have these foil sports caps here in my park that drive me nutts. When I get home tonight I'm checking to see if I can notch them out. Thanks again.

Wise choice on the Safari,Mike. I'm sure that you'll have many finds to post. BTW, add 39 tid, as silver tends to hit 38-39 for many of us.

Will do thanks for the reply.

Yes 38/39 is almost always silver or large cents

On other detectors you lose depth when you increase the discrimination too much does that happen with the safari?

Nope, not what I have seen. When I run my Quattro in my cherry picking program everything is notched out except for 13 to 15 and 31 to 39 I can find coins down 8 to 10 inches. I think the problem with using to much discrimination you have a chance of not hearing a masked coin and you might miss something good.

Hey Mike, Just wondering, did you trade up from the X-terra to the Safari ? Or do you still have it?

Thanks,Ray

Not exactly. I gave the 705 to my brother, his was taken/stolen. I always wanted to see what the Safari could do. It's one that I wanted to try out for some time. I did own an Etrac for about a year or so, but sold it. The Safari seems to a nice compromise of technology and ease of use. So far I really like the Safari, very effective detector. Looking forward to posting some great finds. As you can see below, I'm a fan of Tesoro. They developed a product that is, what I call, "Excellence in Simplicity".

I need to unload my Fisher F75 then looking to get the Outlaw although the X Terra looks interesting.....too many detectors and not enough time:tesoro:

I had an F75, deep but too much chatter for my taste. The Safari is so much better, just my opinion. The Outlaw, excellent!

Hey Mike I was curious since you had an E-trac before do you notice an weight difference more or less? I was wondering as the E-trac is suppose to be balanced better but weighs a little more than the Safari and Explorer SE. Thanks.

I'll answer that Harold since I went from the Etrac to the Safari. Yes, I think that the Safari is lighter...........MO

Sorry for the delay Harold. I have two sons with health issues so there are times I simply don't get in here. The Etrac I had included a SunRay probe and for me anyway was heavy. The Safari seems much light by comparison. I haven't had the Etrac for some time now but the yea, it was heavier.
