First time out

Went metal detecting for the first time yesterday. Spent two hours in a local park with a X-terra 705 and a very patient cousin and found 51 cents -- a 2006 quarter, 1980 quarter, and 1979 penny. I guess you have to start somewhere! Thanks for looking.

As you practice and learn the X-terra 705 you will find some very pleasant surprises. Wait until you find your first piece of jewelry, then your first silver and gold. You'll be back in no time with more finds. Be sure and check out the X-terra forum and find the link to the free book "Understanding Your X-terra" by Randy Horton, aka Digger. Lot of great tips in the book, and a break down of the Minelab coils. I still go back and use it as a reference tool from time to time.

Welcome to a great hobby! Keep the coil low, move slowly, and dig lots of targets, which includes trash too. Once you get your pinpointing down pat and learn how to dig a good plug you'll find that this hobby is lots of fun and it's a great stress buster too. For now don't worry to much about target ID. The more targets you dig the better you'll get. Once you start understanding your tones and the difference between a shallow and a deep iffy target you'll have a better chance of getting those older deeper coins.

Get out often, Be patient, and above all have fun! HH :detecting:
