First time with SE and 11"pro coil..Not good but

Elton

New member
I got out with it.

1 Quarter 1989
1 memorial date shot
1 Wheat cent 1941 7 " deep in trash..........

1 upper right hand screen showing about half on the squares..Could not find that target..dug, and dug, still no target..High pitched sound. Read about 8 " deep on the depth slider

sometimes I'll get those and think about it, but usually they will be at the bottom(deepest for Exp 2) of depth graph. Thats usually a hot rock or a false. But if you said it was at about 8 inches...go back and try again. Might be something nice you missed. not too familiar with SE...good luck

Hi Elton. I have an EXII . I dug some big a-- holes the first couple times out with it . I think its part of the learning curve. The vco pinpointing on the SE is suppose to help with that , If you open the hole and then repinpoint and the center of your pinpoint moves about 4-6 in. , then it might be a false off some iron . if you are masking out the iron you may not know its there. Just a thought. I have a video on youtube right now that shows how a false iron high tone will act sometime. Look for LaDigger on youtube , then watch the "short hunt with tips" HH LaDigger

EL...did the target pinpoint in a tiny area like an 8" deep coin would...or was it more of a wider-longer pinpoint?
Could have been deep iron...but also could have been a deep coin on edge off to the side of the hole.
Your doing fine by the way. It just takes time. If you got a 7" deep wheatie in trash...then already on the way.

Bryce it was not a big target. I could read off the end of the 11" pro. I noticed on most finds I could pinpoint right on the coin at the indent on front of coil..But I just could not find the target. I widend the hole several times, went deeper, and still no target. yet I could go over the hole and target response was only in the middle area. hmmmmmmmmmmmmm One thing I noticed right away that was good..The 11" pro has great target seperation in trash.. Where do you guys pinpoint off the end, or in the middle ?. I just moved coil slightly and as I approached the target it sounded off on the coins I found..and there it was right under the coil when I dug them..well all but the one I could not find LOL

I was in a park so gave up rather than digging a monster hole. The Rangers frown on it.

Thanks all you guys that responded..I am going to need some help with this machine. Appreciate it Fraze and La digger and Bryce..wow how much you have helped Thank you..I was using your settings.

Hi Elton ,

Do you use a hand held pinpointer ? I also didn't see a SunRay X-1 on your machine . I didn't see any of the reply's to your post mention any either . I don't have the Pro coil on my SE so I don't know just how accurately they pinpoint but I would think that even with the pro coil once your digging around 7" to 8" ( or even less ) your going to need one . When a coin is tilted and on the side of a hole I've found that it can be hard to locate with the coil . I either use the SunRay X-1 or the Garrett's Pro Pinpointer . Just a thought .

I agree a pinpointer will be a big plus and just makes that Explorer even more deadly. That target could be one of many things from a hot rock to some type of old bottle cap that broke into pieces when you dug the hole. The more you use that beast the more you are going to be amazed by what it can do, from tiny targets to the depth you can get. Good luck and hope to see even more posts and better finds!

Now that you did your research looks like you getting the hang of it..Surely a learning period and time in the field will surely help especially if you dig an iffie or two. Remember
use all your tools, cursor placement, digital reading and above all tone interpetation and the silver will come right out of the worked out parks..

I am running the pro coil on my explorer XS and i found at depths below the 7"+ mark it harder to lock on after making the 6"+ hole at this point it becomes more of a air target then a ground target. I read that minelabs do well on air targets fortunately I run a inline probe and is worth the added weight to my already "tank" and comes through on those troubles some targets! also makes it much easier to change coils you don't have to thread the upper rod.

sorry about the empty post down below. hit the wrong button. Best thing you can do right now, if you havent already, is get youself a probe from sunray. I cant tell you how many times that thing has paid for itself. It will keep you from digging forever for Iron, and will help in this exact situation we are talking about here. ask around Im sure everyone will agree. could it be it was something very small that was shallow and gave a deeper signal? Lots of possibilities ,which you will learn as you go. Everytime I go out I learn something with this machine. Keep us posted and good luck..:surrender:

If you are in an area where you can dig a big honkin hole then I highly suggest you go back and dig a big honkin hole on that target and see what it is. If it pinpoints as a small object with whatever pinpoint method you use then dig to China If your in a spot where you can. More than a few times I have been surprised. But only if I am in an area with easy digging because more often than not It will not be a good target. One good result of checking this kind of signal is that I got much better at analyzing info.. Most the time with my EX II reading a hit at the deepest this happens but if I'm getting a fair sharp depth reading and cant find a target then I dig wider first then deeper if I can. Definitely not on a lawn. Good Luck.

I got a good solid signal in upper right corner of SE....The square was only half showing. About 3/4 way down on depth slider..Figured about 8" depth.

Pinpointed in the center as if a coin. Opened hole to about 6" and hit pinpoint again. Dead center on hole again showing about 3/4/down on the slider.
used caution because I thought it was silver so started digging slow... Down about 8 no target. Pinponted again..same reading........but no find..Dug hole out more around..and a little deeper..about 10" and still no signal..But still pinpointed in the center of hole. I gave up after cleaning hole out, and not finding anything. I was in a park where the Rangers will nail you for excavating a hole that deep. My dirt pile was pretty high..so filled all back in and re scanned the hole..Still got upper right corner half buried on square....................Maybe another day.........if no Rangers around.....They will throw you out permanent if you break the rules too far.

Elton, i once left a hole...because i couldnt get through the tree root ,in a apartment complex, it killed me to leave it ...i couldnt stand it anylonger, for three or four days i worried about what was under that root ....one night after dark with flash light and drill with a three inch hole saw in hand ,i went and got my target ,,,,,,,,,,it was a dang 1993 nickle ...LOL........but i dont worry about what i might have left now LOL
