First Tri-State hunt finds...

Glenn over on Tnet did a great job putting together a hunt on Staten Island at an old park called "Clove Lakes"

One thing I do know is the weather man knows nadda. If you're lookin' for that kinda info you have to talk to Glenn (TreasurediggerNY). I do believe he had some kinda divine intervention going this morning :) To say that the weather report looked bleak is an understatement. Well, take whatever they said and reverse it to a PERFECT day and that's what we got. Sun, cool, and a nice breeze.

Glenn was well prepared and brought enough dunkin' donuts to feed an army and plenty of "Joe to Go" to awaken even the sleepiest of hunters before the start of the hunt. With a great deal of sugar and caffeine in our blood systems, we began our ascent in search of silver and gold :) Well, this was a pretty BIG park with some elevation that was made evident by the huffing and puffing by the time we got to where we were hunting :) I think I speak for everyone when I say, we're all out of shape :D

By the time I realized it, everyone had gone in different directions. I climbed a path toward the "summit" and found a nice little green area. Coming off of that was another path and I simply followed it. Just a couple of swings into the path, I got a great signal. I had my video cam in my backpack. Did I take it out? Nah... Dug down about 2 or 3" and found this nice Barber Quarter. I was screaming "SILVER" at the top of my lungs and doin' a little "happy dance" :)

Well, about 2 feet away from there, I got another nice signal that I was sure was silver. Did I take my video cam out of my backpack? Nah.... I dug down and got this puppy :) Here's the cleaned up pics (it was pretty black). My very first Barber dime :)

At this point, I start screamin' "SILVER" again and doin' another little "happy dance". A couple of more swings, no more than a foot away from the Barber dime, I hit another good signal. Did I take my video cam out of my backpack this time? Nah....

Dug down a couple of inches and found a Merc... Where's a 1916 D when you need it? :)

At some point after that, I heard that Ricardo had a "run-in" with the Park Police. Seems he was digging in an area that a "woman" ranger deemed was a "manicured lawn". Ricardo said she was a, well, you can figure out the rest... Anyway, she gave him a violation for, now get this... $250!!!! He took pics of the area and of her truck driving over this "sensitive" manicured lawn as she drove away. Bummer for him... but justice will prevail :)

Pretty soon after that, we all seemed to congregate as one around a picnic area. Glen was well prepared once again and started up the grill he brought with him. Hot dogs, hamburgers.... just what the doctor ordered :)

I apologize guys, but for the life of me, I can't remember your names! (but I'll see you both at the next meeting :) )

I don't know about anyone else, but after all that eating, all I wanted to do was take a nap :) However, we made our way out for the 2nd round of hunting.

Didn't find a heck of a lot after that... just a Rosie that barely made silver :)

All in all, it was one fantastic day! Glenn, thanks so much for putting all of this together! We ALL definitely owe you some bucks for what you layed out!!!

Hey was that "metal fury" when we first got there? Sorry we didn't meet up somewhere! Hope you had a good visit to the beach!

Can't wait to do this again!

What did the others find? What a great time! :)

Congrats to you, Joe, and all the others for a great get-together and the silver hunt! Sorry about the ticket but looks like you had fun and plenty to eat! With all the hunting, you would need the energy! God bless and good luck with future hunts! The silver coins and pics look really nice! Always nice to find silver or gold and have friends to detect with in new places!

Gold Bless!

Wow, besides the $250 violation, it sounds like you all had a great day detecting!!!!

Mike,

Glenn got a '23 Buffalo first thing in the morning. Rick called last night to say that Glenn found a merc (after I'd left) in the picnic area we ate (REAL trashy :) ) Glad he got some silver. Charlie "metalman" picked up a merc and Rick got a forty something Washington just before he got the fine... He and Phil said there were a lot of real good signals there and were sure there was more silver. Unfortunately, they couldn't hunt there. It was great to finally meet Phil after all this time :)

Hey,Joe,

WOW!!!! Those are fantastic finds!

Wish I could've been there hunting ,too..Barber quarter; Barber dime; "merc"; "Roosie"

HOT DOGS..HAMBURGS.DONUTS...JOE TO GO !!! Great friends to hunt with...Doesn't get much better than that!:jump:

Congratulations !!

We all had a blast. I tell you what though, I was beat when I got home. VERY steep climbing in most areas... Forgot how hilly Staten Island can be :)
