It got up to almost 70 here today! So it was hunting time.....hunted with Austin and Guy most of the day.
We started out at an old ghost town. Wasn't real sure of the right spot but hunted a large beanfield and found a few pieces of scrap and an old pocket knife. No coins this time. Should be some around there somewhere tho.
Next stop was an old yard that has been turned in to a community center. Used to have free shows there back in the 20s and 30s. I had found a lot of silver there before including a couple of seated dimes. The yard is only about 50' X 100'. Got the barber dime and 1890 indian there with the WOT. I have pounded the place several times before with the stock coil and missed them. The Indian was really deep and the dime was only about 6 inches but I think it was either straight up and down or at a really sharp angle.
Last stop was the bean field that was so good to us over the past couple of years. Not much there these days but you can still find some isolated pockets of coins. The first one today was the 1876CC dime. It was right on top! Next came the 1867 two center (deep), then the 1853 1/2 dime and finally the 74 Indian (both about 6 inches). Also dug a LOT of fired and dropped lead balls and most were DEEP! All of the coins came out of a 50' X 50' area in the 10 acre field.
Got the quarter last week at the old school I hunted with Guy and Shawn.
