Hi, I have a used but new to me Fisher 1265-X on it's way to me. There isn't alot of info to be found on the web about this detector. Not sure the size of the coil (will have to email where I bought it from to find out) but it is a soild coil, I perfer the spider type coils though. I am a coin/jewelry hunter at school grounds/parks/tot lots & hope the 1265 will do the job. From my understanding (reviewing) the 1265 is fairly deep/ built well/ a little on the noisey side/ & loves iron. Steve.

The 1265x is all I have seen him use in all the years that I have hunted with him.
Yes he digs trash, but we all do, I don't care what unit you use, there is always going to be some trash.
Yours looks like a 8" coil, one thing about a solid coil, they don't get hung up like the spider coils do..
Like any unit, its only as good as the guy using it and how well he under stands it..

The 1265x is an excellent "Old School" analog machine. I bought a NOS 1265x a few months back and added the solid 11" coil and I have the X6 inline probe on it also. You are right on the noise, you just have to learn to read the machine. I have found deep minie balls with mine and it is a great machine to "Explore" a site to see how much is there. If I get alot of deep targets I break out my more modern machine to work it. Remember, the deeper the target the softer the tone of the target.

Still use my 1266X, I have had it for 12 years. Still goes Deep and finds the relics. HH...Jesse.
Recieved the 1265 this morning. Just got home from trying it out a school ground I have detected several times. Got about a half pocket full of clad but to my amazement nothing was deeper than I have dug with my Fisher F2/ Ace 250/ Silver uMax/ etc. Maybe things just aren't deep in my part of the world (upstate New York). From rreading a few posts on the 1265 I thought sure that I would be getting some extra depth, not complaining just surprised. There was a storm brewing and the 1265 remained very stable, hits good on coins but has a soft sound when waiving the plug with the coin in it over the coil. It was a bit chirpy but not too bad. I really like the dual disc. feature, the 1265 is alittle heavier than what I am used to swinging but doesn't bother because it is so well balanced. I think that I am going to like the 1265. Steve.

Good one Ski! These are very good units, I just today sold my old 1265x.(clearing out the closet/basement) If ya get bored sometime try turning the sens wide open and see if you get the feedback/chatter - now crawl along when the machine goes silent (repeatablity is the key) dig and dig......... deep. I've gotted mini's(CW Bullets) at insane depth that WERE NOT IN THE SIDEWALL @ over 20 inches doing this.(big coil) Now sometimes it's a rock or a nail but at that depth who cares?!!!! Keep at it, also the 3-3/4 and 5-inch coils are like sniper rifles in the junk. Also do a test turn the disc up to max and see if it kicks out the clad and only sounds off on silver!

This is my first posting in this forum as I just joined last week, however I can tell you that I have a fisher 1265X and I can say you don't have to worry about finding coins with this detector. I'm not going to brag about the depth as you know it all depends on various ground conditions and type of soil you are using it on, and other factors, but if you like digging in 'hardpan' well good luck to ya, I usually hunt after a nice rain or after the snow melts away usually in late March here in the North. I can honestly say I have dug down as deep as 8" to 10" in wet clay soil to retrieve the the old small 5 cent silver coins here in Canada. Not to mention all the other old silver coins this detector loves, I'm sure you won't be disappointed with your purchase. In it's prime for finding coins I would put this detector up against many top brands today and still have one heck of a coin killer that would give some of these newer overpriced hyped up brands a run for the money.
Unfortunately the warranty has run out and I need some service on mine, but the real killer is sending it back to the U.S. because of UPS charges are insane and double whammy at the border once Brokers gets involved. Anyway good luck with your new purchase I'm sure you will be smiling all the way to the bank.

Yep, a great machine. Like mine more that the Minelab Excalibur 1000.
I have a 1266x that I inherited about a year ago that was my dads it was still in the box he did not like it as well as his 1265 so he went back to using that.I bought a 6 month old F75 for 450 dollars,I have used a lot of Fishers and other detectors since 1976 my 1266X smoked the F75 in my test garden.I used it for about 10 hours and I had enough sold F75 for 500 dollars.I use the Safari most of time the1266X is not only my backup machine it is cleanup machine it will find metal toys,lead,metal plated rings and campaign buttons,buttons almost anything plated better than the Safari after I hunt spot with Safari I will hunt with 1266X to get fun stuff I missed not bad for 20 year old machine it is still as good as any 1000 dollar machine out there.

i just bought another 1270 and can't wait to get back in the woods with it, just aquired all the coils except for the solid 11" white coil and the 5 x 10" rare eliptical which next week i will get, i know alot of guys don't care for the 1270 because of the wait but i found the one i owned last time super deep, hope this one i just got is the same way!

This originally is a really old post. The model number caught my eye, since I have a 1280-x for use in water. I am assuming your detector is similar to the 1280-x.
I enjoy using the 1280-x, especially since I hang the main module on my belt. Too heavy on the detector main stem. That detector is fun to use and does a great job. It is heavy on the detector frame, but fun to use off of the frame. No numbers and flashy panels. Just beeps and chirps.
I use mine when Lake Erie warms up enough. Again, a very enjoyable and capable detector.
