Can anyone tell me the depth I can expect on silver coins in Texas soil using an F5?

I noticed your other question about the gold bug vs. F5 coil and am curious as to where you might be huntin'. The only place in TX that I can think of that might still have snow would possibly be in the panhandle. Or, of course, you might just be vacationing down h'yar in the lone star state.

The reason I ask is that TX has just about every kind of dirt and rock that there is. From the desert around big bend to the swamps close to southern Louisiana to the black and red clay around dallas and north of that where I am. Anyhoo, depending on location, my F5 with either the 11 or 5 inch DD coil seems to go to about 10 inches for coins and deeper for larger stuff. A couple of weeks ago I dug up an old (late 1800's) pistol that was right at or maybe deeper than 12 inches. Good luck and HH!

Thanks for the response! I live around the Houston area. I was trying to make a decision on either the F5 or the new Whites coinmaster gt. I am partial to the Fishers as I have had a couple of CZs in the past and they were depth masters and I know I wont get the depth of the CZs with the F5 but I like the way it is set up. The Coinmaster GT looks good as well but if you are getting 10 inches thats all mI need. Thanks again.

I used to MD in Houston and Beaumont in the BFO and TR days; live in LA now. I use the F5 and Omega for coin shooting.
I think I like the F5 best.

I have an early F5 and it seems to max out around 8-9 inches. It can vary depending on wether there is emi present and how I have to adjust for it. I have a CZ3D and you are correct, the F5 doesn't get that 11-12 inches depth, so for an older site wth deep targets it's my choice.. the F5 is a really fun coinshooter, highly tunable to any type hunting, new or old site with reliable ID.

Hey Dirtmaster I live here in the panhandle near Amarillo, our soil here is mostly
caliche so most coins are not much deeper than 6-8 inches. I just ,started using the
F5 a couple weeks ago and love it. Finding coins older than 60-70 yrs old here is real tough
Saturday i pulled a 1957 Roosevelt from abut 7 inches under a tree root, then got a war nickel at 6 inches
got lucky and found some soft ground. Ive owned the whites spectrum, eagle and xlt and am much
More impressed with F5. Good luck with your decision, these guys here will help all you need.

Thanks for all the info. I have decided to go with the F5. Now I just have to save up or do a layaway.
