Fisher F70 my beach settings

I have used the Fisher F70 on the dry sand with the settings below please note these are the settings that I use when hunting on the beach dry sand, and the settings have been very successful.


[1] Disc: 20 no more than 30

[2] Sensitivity 75

[3] threshold: -3

[4] Tones: 2F

[5] Notch out: iron & foil

[6] Ground balance varies depending on your location of hunting on the sand

When working on any beach it is important to ground balance your detector often as the more you detect nearer the tide line the sand becomes richer in minerals and your detector will begin to chatter or chirp or whatever you want to call it, if this happens then you need to adjust your Sensitivity settings until the chatter or chirping dies down or stops it is very rare that I have needed to adjust the rest of the settings I have pre-set before any hunt on the beach, you will find when working on the beach if you walk even a few steps forward the ground balance will have changed due too the mineral changes within the sand SO KEEPING CHECKING THE GROUND BALANCE, it will surprise you how quickly the mineralization on the beach can change and this change can start your f70 to chatter or chirp...hope this helps

Personally, at the beach I would leave foil open. It makes more trash to dig but many small gold rings can be found in that range. Small ear rings, pendants and chains can be found in that range as well.

Wait a minute!
Anytime you run the discrimination above any target zone, and you use the notch function for any of them your actually notching the item IN not out!
That means that if you run the discrimination up past Iron and you use the notch function for the Iron zone sets the detector to detect iron!
Here is how this works.
I may run the discrimination on my F70 all the way up to knock out Zinc pennies, well if I go back and set the notch at Nickels then I set Nickels to be detected (Notched In)
Now this works the other way as well, Lets say I set the discrimination just at the top of Iron, any item or group I set the notch for above the discrimination setting would be notched OUT!

That is to say, items below the discrimination setting can only be notched IN, any item above the discrimination setting can only be notched OUT!
Notch setting is reverse of the discrimination setting,

MarkCZ is correct. If you notch out a discriminated area, you will be notching that area back in. Look at the discrimination area on the screen. That area will no longer be slashed out.
