FISHER F70 PROBLEM

Bought a used f70 in almost new condition. When first used a couple of time's in my yard with factory set's and turning up setting's, very stable. When i installed duracell rechargeble 2650mah 1.2 volt batts detector in now very unstable no matter if i turn all setting's down. Could the rechargeable batt's have done damage to the detector? Instruction manual said you could use those batt's. Even when i install regular batt's now it is still very unstable. Thank's Tom

The Duracell rechargeable batteries are only 1.2 volts each. You just under volted it. That should not have caused any damage. Are the regular batteries alkaline batteries? Regular AA batteries may still be under volted. Get a new set of Energizer lithium ion batteries. They last three times longer than regular alkaline and are cost effective especially with the F-70.

When you say unstable, not sure what that means. Unstable with target ID? Unstable with regards to falsing? Are you checking the machine out inside in a room with a computer? Or outside near a power line? Where is your settings? There is a lot on an F-70 that can cause problems if not adjusted correctly. The batteries may not be the problem.

Unstable as when i swing the coil it sound's and target id's jump's all over scale. I'm in my own yard where i detected with this just fine before this problem started. Even in both stock program's i get these sound's. The only thing i might be doing different is ground balance. I watched the video on youtube about f70 and when they ground ballanced they lifted coil 2 or 3 feet off ground before lowering coil to balance. Also when i try to find a spot pinpointing for no metal before balancing it act as if there is object's everwhere where i have detected before without any prolem. Thank's Tom

Got a coil cover on? If so, take it off and clean coil and cover. You might have something trapped under it. Sometimes a sloppy wrap on the coil wire can do it if it is too loose at the bottom.

Don't have a coil cover, i did clean bottom of coil good. When you say sloppy coil wire wrap do you mean coil wire wrapped around shaft. Wire is pretty tight, there is is a little looseness on shaft. Also i changed the way i ground balanced, it did help. Also detector did not have Velcro strap's for wire. Thank's Tom

Tom you get 40 hours on 4 AA alkaline batteries. Check to see if there is a person mowing his grass, big truck idling in the street, wireless computer, cell phone. I did a little park yesterday and it was so noisy there. The police were there taking finger prints of little kids and their computers were messing up my detector. I think? There was a lot of interference my F70 was chattering like crazy. Just backed down the sens and kept on detecting. I know from other sites construction equipment interferes, trucks idling, near power lines, lawn mowers. It doesn't mean you can't detect. You can lower sens, change frequencies or just learn the good signals that are coming through the chatter. The F70 is a fantastic machine, you have to adjust to its ways. Hope this helps.....Z

The best deal on an excellent quality battery for the F70 IMHO is the Energizer EN91 AA - Zinc Manganese Dioxide - 2850mAh - 1.5V DC battery. You can buy a case of 24 of them for $15.99 with free shipping from buyDOTcom. I get 40-50 hours out of my F70 and it runs very stable. Hit two ghost towns last weekend and it found a few keepers (and was stable as can be) and then did a three day competition hunt with about 100 other people and again it ran perfectly (never got any crosstalk from any of the other machines and there was about everything every made in the past ten+ years there).

Give them a shot, at only 67 cents each their the best deal on the planet IMHO.

hh,
Brian
