Fisher F75 SE LTD Black detector???

St Bernard

New member
I am looking real close to the F75 Special Edition LTD black detector package. It seems to be a great all around detector from what I have researched about the F75 LTD. I am really interested in its gold nugget prospecting
capabilities as well as an all around unit. It comes with a 11" DD coil and a 5" DD coil. I do not mind getting other coils if need be. Are these to coils it comes with good all around coils ? I want the best coil Fisher has for gold
prospecting and an excellent coil for depth and covering lots of ground. It can also be a different coil maker other than Fisher. A lot will be in fairly high trash areas parks, lakes etc. I live in the Sierra foothills in Northern California pretty good area for gold prospecting also. Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The F75 LTD 2 is the latest one out and it is one good all around detector. I am not sure if this is the one your looking at or an older version.

I am looking at the new F75 LTD all black detector. I had the subject title wrong putting SE in the title line my mistake and I could not edit it out. What I am after is what is the best coil for gold prospecting? It comes with 2 coils
a 11' and a 5" DD coils. I see a lot of people are using coils other than Fisher coils. I do not mind buying other manufactures coils if they perform better than the stock coils. I read a lot are using NEL coils on this detector. I want the best coils that work with the F75 LTD. All help with coil selection is greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot

There always seem to be a fair number of lightly used F75 ltd2 two coil units available in the classifieds which are very good deals. It is a terrific detector and makes a good all around detector as well as one that works well for small jewelry and nugget shooting. I find the NEL Sharpshooter is a good coil choice for those uses but the 5", and I believe there's also a 4 x 6 , are very good as well. The stock coil makes it a good all around coin machine and you can get a concentric to help with identifying bottle caps if you wish. It has a true all metal mode for prospecting. Bear in mind that used units do not have a transferable warranty unless it is specified. The used F75s with little use that pop up are one of the best values you can find.

That is a pretty tall order, for one coil to do it all. The 11" coil is a good all around hunter for all but your small gold nugget hunting.

The 5" is about as good as it gets for being sensitivity enough to hit on small gold, but the down side to it is the ground coverage.

So the next best one I can think of would be the NEL snake or the Fisher 3.25 x 6.5" concentric coil. These 2 coils are about the same size and shape, so they would give you a little better ground coverage, and still get into some tight spots the 5" will not go. For me if I was going to hunt in your area for the prospecting part I would go with Fisher 6.5" elliptical concentric (called the little football coil). I have tested the 5", the NEL snake and the 6.5" on small gold jewelry and they are all about the same sensitivity.

Next up is the NEL Sharpshooter and the Fisher 5x10DD, I class them about the same for depth. The big difference here is weight and design, the 5x10 is a solid box coil and is the heaviest of the two. The NEL SS is a spider type coil and lighter. The 5x10 is pretty good it the woods and brush, it does not hang up like the spider coils do. The NEL SS would be better for a more open type of area. These 2 coils for me seem to fit in like a medium class for size. So for small gold nuggets you may lose some sensitivity. We don't have any gold nuggets in our area so I just don't know how well they would do.

That's all the coils I have for my F75.

Good luck,

Ron in WV

My favorite coil for the F 75 is the Fisher 5 x 10 d d. It has a little more depth then the 5" d d and nearly as deep as the 11" d d and separates better in trash then the 11". It is not as laser like as the 5", but does have a nice small sweet spot up on the toe of the coil. I use it a lot for woods hunting and can get in and under brush easily with it. Seems like the same application could apply for gold hunting. HH jim tn

Bill, you are new to the forum and did not mention your experience level. he F75 is a super machine but that comes at a price. It is not easy to know which settings to use or what it is telling you. If you are willing to really dig in and learn it well it will find gold, but it is not a gold machine. It is powerful and flexible, but complicated and is easily over driven (sparky?) or not optimally configured. In my opinion you would be better off, if you are a newbie, getting a Gold Bug Pro (or maybe F19?) with a 5X10.
They are brilliantly simple to run well and very good at finding gold without going to a much more expensive specialty machine- PI or dedicated gold machine.
Best of luck!

I have had several detectors in the past. One was a Garrett and the other a Whites. I think the hobby is a lot of fun and want to get back into the detecting. I have several friends close who also do detecting and we will
do a lot together. The reason I am looking for a coil for mainly gold detecting with the F75 LTD. I understand there is no coil for a certain purpose but want one that works good to excellent for gold detecting. Most of the gold detecting in this part of CA. I live in is primarily nugget in dry creek and streams once the dry up. I have no problem learning a new unit such as the F75 LTD.
I appreciate all the responses from all who answered my thread it gives me a lot of information to work with. Again thanks

If you will do a google search for treasure classifieds you will see a good example of a good deal.

You won't have a problem picking up on the F 75 LTD. The main thing for the first few hours of use is to run it fairly tame, like in the factory pre-set modes. Good luck and HH jim tn

Hi Bill, I have had great luck with my F-75 SE LTD and stock 11" coil, all so have 5" , also 6.5" E, Concentric coil. I plan getting the 10" Fisher coil, soon. but my primary gold detector is a MineLab GPX 5000. I hunt for gold nugs in pocket gold area.To my own brother in law, I recommended Fisher Gold Bug Pro.

Take care, Ed
