I have owned CZ-20 detectors for many years. I have had the 8" and 10 1/2" and 5" coils.
At first, I naturally figured a bigger coil had to beat the 5" by covering more area and going deeper.
However, after using it, I thought that there are pros and cons.
Here are 5" coil pros for underwater hunting.==
Being 5" it swings faster underwater and with a CZ a faster swing is fine = more area covered based on speed of swing.
Depthwise, if your hunting for quarters, the bigger coils go a few inches deeper. If your after gold rings, the depth is nearly the same.
Another "area coverage" point, with a 5" coil, 1 scoop hits the target most every time, because it pinpoints the target in a 5" area.
So you don't waste time [time = coverage] or give yourself a backache,[backaches = less time hunting = less coverage]
digging numerous scoops to get your target.
In the end, it's about all a wash and the difference is negligable.
Of course, you get much less masking from nearby junk as well.
On shore or on land, it is like swinging a little Tesoro!
Now, is all this shared wisdom included, because I have a CZ-20 / 21 with a 5" coil to sell. Heck ya, but it's still true!
