Fisher user thinking about getting a Minelab Need advice

dirtmaster

New member
I currently own an older Fisher CZ7a Pro detector in which I really like but am considering trying a Minelab Quattro. The depth of my Fisher seems to be as good as most detectors but I have read stories of Minelabs going as deep as 14 inches on coins and I dont think my Fisher can quite reach that with a proper ID. The most I am getting on dimes and such is between 8 and 10 inches. I like the notching on the Fisher but as I understand on the Quattro you can kind of notch out certain ID numbers which to me would be more precise. Can anyone give me any insight on the Quattro without being too biased? Preferrable someone who has experience with Fisher CZs. I know I have heard Minelabs is great with iron as Fishers tend to see a lot of deep iron nails as coins. Thanks......

Dirtmaster,i have owned a quattro and now a sovereign.....two machines from minelabs multi frequency lineup.I have never owned a fisher cz series detector but I can say a few things about the quattro. It is a simple to operate machine that has excellent iron discrimination and depth to equal minelabs other fbs machines.....it is basically a simplified explorer. It copes well with all conditions even wet salt minerals on the beach. The only negative for me was the pinpointing with the supplied coil.....i put a coiltek platypus on mine and pinpointing became easy.....as well as giving better balance.Minelabs multifrequency machines have the best iron discrim of any machine and the quattro is no exeption.I have found out of all the detectors I have owned, which is a lot, minelabs multi frequency machines have certainly given me a depth advantage in all conditions.I do not think you will be disappointed with the quattro.

Well the Quattro I was going to buy got sold before I could sell my Fisher so if anyone has a Quattro wanting to trade for a CZ7a Pro with 8 and 10.5 inch coil holler at me.

If you do get the Quatro swap out the stock coil for the 11" DD Pro coil and the only thing different is just a slightly faster prosessor with the Safari. The Pro coil has seperation and light weight. While they do have an acceptable iron descrimination they "null" out in heavy minerized ground. They lose the threshold tone but will hit targets if you slow down to a crawl or use very little to no descrim. No doubt the ML will get more silver on the average than any other machine due to it has its own tone that POPS out allowing you to go after silver coins faster.

The fishers tend to seperate better in target rich environments, the minelabs have a very accurate ID discrimination, they tend to work better in mineralized soils over the fishers, the minelabs are heavier . Fishers tend to be more sensitive to thin gold.
