Flat Bottom Coil Cover

CKY

New member
Do thy make them? DIY? I have been working a cut corn field and the coil keeps getting caught up in the cut stalks....

I read on a thread the other day about something someone on the forum attaches to the bottom of their coil for that purpose. I can't remember what it was, but I thought it was pretty brilliant.....obviously forgettable, but brilliant.....

Someone will chime in...

There's no reason a guy couldn't cut a fitted piece of plastic out of a 5 gal bucket bottom or lid or tupperware stuff and use a few cable ties to attach it to the coil after punching some holes to either side of the spokes. It's going to collect some debris as you detect but should be simple to shake it clean as long as you don't allow a lot of dirt to accumulate.

Aesthetics are immaterial.

If i am detecting on stubble of any type of much prefer to use a detector with a much smaller coil so that i can get closer to the ground,of course XP dont make such a small coil for the Deus, the option of using a plastic cover like a frisbee is a good idea,i use one on my Pulse machine and also so much cheaper than the factory made option.

Oilseed rape stubble is the worse stubble going in my mind as its just like thick cane, the other opion when detecting stubble is also using a larger coil and let the sheer weight of the coil knock the stubble down.

Keep us updated on how you get on.

I don't hunt stubble very often.
What I have done is, I made a bag like a shower cap with a draw string.
Quick and easy.
If I were to be hunting stubble often I would look at the Frisbee, I think it is a great idea.

Thanks for all the help. I like the frisbee idea I think that will be my first go at it. I might get an extra coil cover and some Casting resin. But for the few times I hunt in stubble the frisbee cover should work.

frisbee = too heavy

I like the shower cap idea; easy on/off replaceable

I shrink wrap boats in the fall as folks decommission and store for winter so:

I use a small pice of shrink wrap plastic; set coil on it, buch above coil edge and shrink with a heat gun (or blow drier), cut off excess
you can get a piece (probably for free) at any marina.

add less weight than the other options, and is pretty dang durable afa stone/stubble
