can someone give me and age range?

Is that a one-piece, or a two-piece? (some 2-peices were very flat/compressed, so could be deemed "flat" I suppose. It's hard to tell from your pix).

Based on the front design, and manufactured "gilt" type look of the back, and the gold-gilded color, I'd guess mid 1800s. It doesn't look crude enough to be earlier. The design type is very similar to gilt buttons that date to the 1830s/40s-ish, and perhaps up to the 1860s.

Looks like a 2 piece button... circa 1870's most of the earlier ones like Gilt were just simple flat with little face design.... some were huge. Great find and the location has some good possibilities for some really old coins.
