Down in Morgan City, La where we go to visit our son & family they have these huge concrete sea walls that they close when water rises. Like now. Here's one open.

And here it is closed. The river is about a mile wide here.

The bridge in the background that's raised = that's the one we ride Amtrak over . They lower it for us and then raise it for big ships. Steve in so az

Interesting pics, Steve. Hope your families situation isn't too bad due to all the flooding...I wonder what sights we will see as we travel through AL next week heading to the beach :( So many are affected by this crazy weather.

The cities need flood gates when living near the Mississippi River! St. Louis has them too and they are closed right now, I think, as Leonora Sullivan Blvd. has water covering it and the water has been as far up at the foot of the Arch, as we had a terrible flood in 1993, with houses under water and some washed away by the floods! Washes away soil from the bottom lands but also puts more on, which is really good to grow foods that the farmers plant when they are able to do so...not able right now and what they did plant has been under water! May God Bless your son and family to be safe from the rising waters! Amen! Ma Betty

Where is all the water in the first two pics?
