Fool's Gold or real Gold in NJ?

I must apologize first. I know negative info about gold anywhere. I did find what I believe to be a quartz stone with some sort of "gold vein" thru it. I truly do not believe it to be gold but I would like to know any info regarding real gold in the Garden State. Thank you. HH. Matt

Take a knife to it and remove a few pieces. When pushed on does it go crack, crunch or crumble-not gold then. Should be more ductile like lead but a bit stiffer, thats why in days a old miners would always BITE the coin or nugget to check if real. Lotza luck-John

Sposed to be large deposits of zinc and galena ores in NJ at one time . My relatives mineral rights in Wisconsin were owned by the New Jersey Zinc Company up until a few years back.Dunno about gold? Maryland had gold deposits at one time, dating back to late 1700's from what I read.
